The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs has set up an intranet system to fast track the process of issuing group visas to companies, said a senior official yesterday.

Ahmed Kajoor, Assistant Undersecretary of the ministry, said the system which will be launched within a week or two will stop misplacement of applications for group visas and facilitate processing and controlling of visas.

The Dubai government's drive towards e-governance is set to pick up further momentum with the launch of two new IT certification programmes - the eCitizen and the eEmployee.

The new certification programmes are aimed at increasing computer and Internet literacy among government employees and citizens of Dubai, to maximise the benefits and usage of the Government's eServices.

October marks the second anniversary of Dubai Municipality's interactive website which is continuing to expand.

Some 56 e-services are now provided to residential and business customers, as well as a directory of services carrying information about 263 services. The site, www.dm.gov.ae, was launched in October 2001.

The Dubai eGovernment has announced the official launch of a unified Contact Center, an integrated communication system available to all government departments, aimed at providing customers with multiple communication channels, phone, fax or email, for all kinds of services and inquiries round the clock.
