Am persischen Golf sind nun die ersten Hotspots, die drahtlosen Zugang zum Internet ermöglichen, in Betrieb genommen worden. Betreiber ist der ISP Emirates and Multimedia (EIM), eine Tochter des arabischen Telekomproviders Etisalat. User können sich in einem Umkreis von 100 Metern per User-Name und Passwort in das Internet einwählen. Zu Beginn sollen die Hotspots vor allem auf Flughäfen, in Shopping Malls, Hotels und Konferenzzentren in den Emiraten Abu Dhabi, Dubai und Sharjah etabliert werden.
