A new Internet service will soon allow people to carry out automatic transactions with the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.

The Ministry will shortly launch a 'smart forms' portal to fast-track processing of transactions and provide a complete, end-to-end form completion process for companies, typing centres and individual customers. Dr Khalid Al Khazraji, undersecretary at the ministry, said: "The fast growth in IT technology prompted the replacement of manual routine transactions with new technology to improve the productivity of government work. One of the ministry's goals is to launch the first e-government portal in the country presenting paperless transactions and facilitating day-to-day operations and overall processing. This would save time," he said.

"This portal will improve the quality of information, decision-making and avoid problems caused by manual transactions. The fully secure, reliable and round-the-clock portal will handle all federal government transactions and payments and will provide different types of services such as notification and transaction inquiry.

"The ministry will offer a complete, end-to-end smart form process, secure, reliable with many additional services, with coordination between ministries and different government departments," Dr Khalid said.

"The portal will enable the ministry to predict workload through statistic studies of transactions. Decision makers at the ministry can then delegate work orders more effectively.

"It will be available for customers 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The facility will also offer improved service to clients, by eliminating the need to visit Ministry offices. Automating signatures also reduces the cost and effort involved in processing of transactions."

The system will ensure that documents such as passport copies are archived to avoid the need for repeated submission and scanning of documents.

  • Automated transaction approval: an authorised person can approve or reject transactions anytime, anywhere using a signature card.
