A recent UN e-government report ranked the UAE as the top performer in e-government readiness in the Middle East and Africa region, followed by Bahrain, Turkey, Cyprus, Jordan, Lebanon and Qatar.

The survey entitled "World Public Sector Report 2003: e-Government at the Crossroads" ranked countries in terms of e-government readiness as reflected in "the generic capacity or aptitude of the public sector to use Information and Communication Technology for encapsulating public services and deploying to the public high-quality information and effective communication tools that support human development."

Dubai eGovernment and the UAE University have signed a deal to boost mutual co-operation.

UAE University vice-chancellor Dr Hadef bin Jouan Al Dhahiri said the memorandum of understanding would enable the university to achieve its goal of strengthening its focus on IT education by providing on-the-job training to the students.

The Office of Personnel Management by early March will release a request for proposals for online training services for its E-Learning e-government project.

The multiple award indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract will feature nine service categories and have one base year with four one-year options. E-Learning is one of five Quicksilver projects OPM is managing.

Dubai eGovernment and the UAE University have laid the foundation for a long-term collaboration by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that spells out mutual cooperation in different areas, including research and benchmarking, content for e-learning, hands-on training of Dubai eGovernment systems and participation in seminars and training courses.
