The UAE Ministry of Finance and Industry (MoFI) received an official government delegation from the Omani Ministry of Industry and Commerce (OMIC) interested in learning more about the UAE's Duty Exemption Online Service (DUTEX).

The Arab League is studying the implementation of IT solutions used by the Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department (DNRD) to facilitate user-friendly services for the community and businesses.

The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs will issue work permits online by the end of this year, a senior official said yesterday.

Ahmed Kajoor, Assistant Undersecretary of the ministry, said the move is meant to speed processing of permits and curb forgery and trading of them.

By the year 2005, the UAE will have the highest Internet penetration of the region at 38 per cent. At that time there will be 1.34 million Internet users in the country.

The projections, based on a study conducted by Madar Research Group, are providing a further boost to Dubai eGovernment's 'e4all' initiative launched recently to accelerate IT penetration in the UAE through community IT training. It consists of value packages developed in association with prime sponsor Intel Middle East and strategic partners Fujitsu Siemens Computers, Microsoft, EPSON Middle East, a leading bank and four training institutes.
