Dubai eGovernment has announced the launch of eEmployee, a new initiative designed to provide IT skills to government employees through online and classroom training leading to the ICDL (International Computer Driving Licence) certification.

The programme aims to enhance the ability of government departments to deliver improved eServices to the public and the business community. Dubai eGovernment has tied up with four major training institutes to deliver the training via a newly created portal www.eemployee.ae. The topics covered in the programme include introduction to key IT concepts, practical use of IT solutions and file management, Word processing, Spreadsheets and e-learning solutions.

At the end of the programme, each employee will get an eEmployee certificate from Dubai eGovernment and an ICDL START certification, the internationally recognized computer proficiency standard that is owned by the European Computer Driving License (ECDL) and sponsored by the UNESCO's Cairo Office.

'eEmployee has been launched to complement our earlier initiative e4all, which is meant to enhance IT competency among all parties involved in the delivery and use of eServices,' said Rehab Lootah, eServices Provisioning Manager, Dubai eGovernment. The new initiative will thus complete the picture of a well-knit eGovernment fully geared to deliver world-class eServices.'

The dedicated portal (www.eemployee.ae) will enable government employees to register and complete the course. Learners have the option of studying either online or through classroom training at designated training centres. The four training courses selected by Dubai eGovernment for delivering classroom training are New Horizons, Compubase Dubai, ExecuTrain Dubai and SitesPower Training Centre. The classroom training will be delivered by experts well versed with Dubai eGovernment systems.

Each programme will consist of four modules, in English and Arabic, involving 40 hours of learning. Dubai eGovernment has partnered with technology institutes of higher learning to conduct examinations that will lead to the eEmployee certification. The total cost per employee will be Dhs. 1150.

Dubai eGovernment has set benchmark standards for its eServices, in tune with the goal of migrating most of public services to electronic channels. This makes it imperative for all government employees to acquire appropriate IT skills to be able to reach the standards set. Dubai eGovernment is proud to associate with ICDL because this certification has successfully imparted focused and systematic training to learners across the globe through proven methodologies. 'We are confident that after acquiring the ICDL certification, employees of government departments will have a better understanding of the various IT processes and systems that support Dubai eGovernment's eServices,' added Lootah.
