His Highness Sheikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qassimi, the Crown Prince of Ras Al Khaimah, recently visited the Dubai eGovernment and met with Dubai eGovernment senior officials to gain a greater perspective of the project that is investing in leading edge information technology and enhancing the delivery of services to citizens by opening improved channels of interaction and optimising processes and commended the officials for their commitment towards facilitating these processes. Khalid A. bin Sulayem, Director General, Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) and a number of dignitaries accompanied His Highness during the visit.

The dignitary was welcomed by Salem Al-Shair, Director of eServices, Dubai eGovernment, who conducted a presentation on the challenges faced by Dubai eGovernment which is fast achieving its stated objective of providing more than 70 per cent of Dubai government services via electronic channels by the year 2005.

His Highness Sheikh Saud expressed great interest in boosting the areas of cooperation between Dubai eGovernment and the Ras Al Khaimah government, including sharing expertise that would develop the eServices of the emirate.

"The Dubai eGovernment is empowering itself to contribute more effectively in the development of the economy of United Arab Emirates by incorporating solutions that will further its objective where most government services will be provided online through an integrated portal. This initiative has been undertaken in keeping with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Defence Minister whose vision is to transform Dubai, the leading commercial and IT hub of the region," said Salem Al-Shair, Director of eServices, Dubai eGovernment.

"When Sheikh Mohammed launched the Dubai eGovernment project in October 2001, he highlighted the idea of The House of Expertise (Bait Al-Khebrah) within the project and directed the Dubai eGovernment team to offer a range of consultations, training programmes and expertise to employees of government departments and their clients. Sheikh Mohammed emphasised that the most successful government department is the one that offers its services through eChannels. Dubai eGovernment is committed to offer its expertise on eServices to various government departments in Dubai and the UAE to accelerate the pace towards a digital economy," Al-Shair added.

"Our primary objective is to ease the lives of the people by providing them with the facility to carry out government transactions electronically. Dubai eGovernment believes that by migrating to online services, performance levels can be substantially increased, with the added benefits of paperless environment, substantial cost savings and improved efficiency at all levels of government functioning which will further boost the image of UAE as a progressive nation which is at the forefront of the information communication technology revolution in the region," Al-Shair added.

His Highness Sheikh Saud expressed his appreciation and interest in the various initiatives being undertaken by the Dubai eGovernment. He was confident that the close cooperation between the Dubai eGovernment and the Ras Al Khaimah government would result in an enhancement of the IT services provided by the emirate to ease the lives of citizens and commercial enterprises dealing with the government. After the meeting it was decided that the Dubai eGovernment would draw up a tentative action plan to initiate the process of expertise and knowledge sharing with the Ras Al Khaimah government.
