Azerbaijan and Estonia have signed an agreement on cooperation in the ICT sector.

Mushfig Amirov, spokesman for the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies, said the document was signed in New York by foreign ministers of the two countries.

Azerbaijan-Latvia roundtable on information & communications technologies (ICT) ahs been held in Baku today.

Deputy communications minister Elmir Velizadeh of Azerbaijan emphasized that Azerbaijan actively developing ICT area hopes for co-operation with Latvia in it.

“Over the past 5 years ICT sector growth in Azerbaijan made up about 32%. Its growth is expected this year as well despite the global economic crisis. To the large extent, this is a desert of private companies making 80% in this sector,” Velizadeh said.

The Ministry of Economic Development of Azerbaijan is ongoing enlarging involvement in processes of e-Government Project.

The Ministry has reported of opening of a special website (www.anfes.gov.az) of the National Entrepreneurship Support Fund under the MED.

Rashad Rasulu, general secretary of the Azerbaijan-Turkey Business Association (ATIB), along with the reps of the Ministry of Economic Development and the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan have participated in the Asian Development Bank’s seminar on the theme “Development of electronic single one stop shop system in foreign economic activity” in Singapore within the framework of CAREC Programme.

ATIB reports that at the seminar it was conducted presentation of relevant systems applied in Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, China, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan.

The Azerbaijani-Estonian ICT Workshop has today taken place in Baku on the sidelines of the 14th Azerbaijan International Telecommunications and Information Technologies Exhibition (BakuTel-2008).

Ali Abbasov, Azerbaijan’s Minister for Communications and Information Technologies praised the development of cooperation between the two countries in the field of communications, saying Azerbaijan takes interest in learning Estonian experience in this area.
