Bandar Seri Begawan - A New government utility bill payment has been introduced allowing existing water and electricity customers to pay their bills through participating banks effective yesterday following the signing of agreements between the government and respective banking institutions.

In addition to the existing Department of Electrical Services (DES) and Public Works Department (PWD) counter services, customers can now pay their bills through online banking, automated teller machines (ATMs), cash deposit machines, cheque deposit machines and phone banking.

Changes must be made in the ways civil servants think and work to ensure that the public service is efficient and continues to play an important role in the country's development, said the permanent secretary at the Prime Ministers Office yesterday.

It is the responsibility of every civil servant to deliver quality services through an administration that is just, clean and efficient, processes that have been made easier, as well as counter services which require employees to be courteous and friendly to customers, said Sa Bali Abas during the prize presentation ceremony of an essay writing competition at the Civil Service Institute.

Recruitment of prospective candidates to fill up information technology (IT) vacancies is the top priority for the E-Government National Centre this year as they are in the process of drawing up plans to address the shortage of IT manpower in the civil service, said a senior official at the Prime Minister's Office.

Deputy permanent secretary at the Prime Minister's Office Abdul Mutalib Pehin OKSSDP Hj Mohd Yusof shared this during the Technology Forum on "The Progresses of e-Government in Brunei Darussalam" at The Empire Hotel and Country Club.

Citizens and residents of Brunei Darussalam can now have a faster and easier way to apply for housing through the Ministry of Development's online housing application on its e-Sikap web site that was officially launched yesterday by the Deputy Minister of Development.

By simply typing in www.perumahan.gov.bn an application form is presented whereby all the applicant has to do is fill in the necessary information and submit the application back to the Housing Development Department.
