Traffic cops in the city will soon be carrying ‘Pocket PCs’ instead of traffic fine registers which will go into retirement after the introduction of an integrated electronic system, a traffic police official said yesterday.

The move, according to police, comes as part of an overall police strategy aimed at replacing current methods with more advanced systems that could serve larger number of people and catch up with the pace of development in the city.

Dubai Municipality has recently set up a special counter for e-government services at the Customer Services Centre in the Municipality Head Quarters.

Khalid AbdelRahim Abdullah, Head of Customer Services Section said the move goes along with the e-government initiative of Dubai government aimed at making Dubai into a pioneering centre of activities.

Dubai eGovernment is to carry out usability audit of government departments' websites that are integrated with the Dubai eGovernment portal to ensure they continue to have uniform standards as set by Dubai eGovernment.

Usability auditing refers to the total professional analysis of a website from both technical and users' point of view, keeping Dubai eGovernment's guidelines as the yardstick.

Dubai eGovernment will carry out a usability audit to ensure that government departments’ websites incorporated in the Dubai eGovernment portal are in compliance with uniform standards set by the organisation.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed by Dubai eGovernment, gave Masiya Net FZ, a subsidiary of Afflatus, the responsibility of analysing government departments’ websites, and advising them if they do not adhere to eGovernment guidelines.

The Ministry of Finance and Industry (MoFI) has completed the first phase of its massive project to implement its e-system, allowing certificates of origin and export permits to be requested online.
