The Emirates Identity Authority (EIA) is exhibiting the latest smart card technologies being used in the production of the new Identity Card at GITEX.

The introduction of the new high-tech card is considered one of the largest technical projects of its kind in the Middle East.

Dr. Saeed Al Dhaheri, Director-General of EIA, said the Authority is using GITEX to showcase the latest technical features being used by EIA to design the new card and ensure it meets the highest security standards.

Dubai eGovernment relaunched its upgraded website with a slew of new e-services at Gitex 2005 on Sunday.

The new-look site with more content and interactive features is more focused, more detail oriented, user-specific and userfriendly, facilitating easy access to government services, said officials.

The eGovernment dubai.ae stall in Hall 8 is hosting all the Dubai government departments showcasing the eServices offered by them.

Even though the world is shifting towards e-services, most private medical institutions in the country do not trust the electronic processing of transactions adopted by the Ministry of Health (MoH).

A senior health official lamented the fact that most private medical institutions operating in the country shy away from paying fees levied on processing various health transactions online.

Speaking to Khaleej Times, Dr Ibrahim Ali Al Qadi, Director of Private Medical Practice Department at the Ministry of Health said statistics compiled by his department have shown that most of private health clinics and centres in the country avoid paying fees imposed on various health transactions electronically.

Mobile phone users in Dubai have become the first in the Middle East to be able to log onto the internet and access information through a mobile portal launched yesterday by the Dubai eGovernment.

The service is part of a customer "wish list" derived from an indepth survey which the Dubai eGovernment is trying to fulfil, said Salem Al Shair, eServices director, at the press launch of the service.

Dubai e-Government became the first entity in the Middle East on Wednesday to launch a dedicated portal offering e-Services to users via hand-held mobile devices.

The innovative 'mobile portal', accessible through Dubai e-Government portal www.dubai.ae, allows users to access information and carry out transactions instantly via hand-held mobile devices such as mobile phones and PDAs. The advanced technology used in developing the system detects if the user has logged on using a hand-held device and links him to the specifically designed mobile portal.
