Dubai e-Government and eHosting DataFort (EHDF), a leading regional provider of managed hosting and security services, announced today the launch of the new e-Government portal and e-Payment gateway. A new network architecture developed by EHDF and application architecture designed by Dubai e-Government running on a new technology platform will help Dubai achieve the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to “Ease the lives of people and businesses interacting with the Government and contribute in establishing Dubai as a leading economic hub.”

The civic body is keen to continue its efforts towards electronic trade in order to accomplish different commercial transactions, Qassim Sultan, Director-General of Dubai Municipality, said on Thursday.

The director-general added that this step will coincide with the constant developments witnessed by the city of Dubai and will be supporting the government’s plan for the e-government. He also praised the big role played by the portal Tejari.com in setting up a support base for e-market for exchanging online trade between commercial establishments, companies and organisations.

Dubai e-Government has launched an e-Citizen Certification Programme to increase the awareness and usage of the government's online services amongst the public.

The e-Citizen programme is intended to educate citizens on the most effective way of using Dubai's extensive e-government infrastructure. Upon completion of the training and exams, candidates will be provided an e-Citizen Certificate from Dubai e-government.

A gross lack of IT security policy leaves Middle Eastern governments and private firms vulnerable to cyber attacks that could potentially wreak havoc on the region's economies, according to the director of a leading German IT supplier.

"There are no government strategies for IT securities in the Middle East," said Anas Chibib, a managing director of Berlin-based Advanced German Technologies (AGT) at GITEX, the region's largest annual hi-tech trade show taking place this week at the Dubai International Exhibition Center.

Dubai eGovernment has launched an SMS service that allows mobile phone users to get immediate responses from government.

The new service is a key plank of Dubai eGovernment's mDubai service that aims to deliver messages via mobile phones, PDAs or the internet.
