The high-powered 10-member Financial and Economic Committee (FEC) has agreed an action plan for developing the financial system across federal government.

The committee established by UAE Cabinet in January held its first meeting yesterday at the Ministry of Finance and Industry in Dubai. The committee is chaired by Shaikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance and Industry.

Employees from Dubai Justice Department, Department of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and Dubai Civil Defence have taken eEmployee exams at Dubai's Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT).

"The eEmployee programme was designed by Dubai eGovernment in an effort to enhance computer competency of all government employees," said Mahmood Al Bastaki, Acting Director of eServices, Dubai eGovernment. "The increasing demand for the programme has created the need for an examination centre that has consistently high standards and state of the art facilities. Higher Colleges of Technology has all the equipment and staff needed to offer world-class examination facilities for government employees. We are confident that after acquiring the certificate, employees of government departments will have a better understanding of the various IT processes and systems that support Dubai eGovernment's eServices."

Dubai Municipality has announced the launch of a Centralized Statistical Information System in the Emirate of Dubai that seeks to provide mechanisms for ensuring data flow and analyzing statistical data electronically.

The move forms part of Dubai's e-Government initiative.

Boosted by better economic times and streamlined payment methods, Tarrant County's property tax collections soared past $100 million in the largest-ever collection for the October-through-December period, Tax Assessor-Collector Betsy Price said Tuesday.

The e-services provided by Dubai Municipality as part of its e-Government project has become a huge hit with the users due to its user friendly nature. The number of online services offered by the civic body has increased to 147 services by the end of 2004.
