UAE e-Government’s dream took yet another step towards realisation with the launch of a Web portal called ‘e-portal’. Chaired by H E Dr. Mohammed Khalfan bin Kharbash, UAE Minister of State for Finance and Industry, this launch paved way for a number of governmental services to go on-line, creating a one-stop gateway for public access.

The Department of Economic Development (DED), Dubai’s department that organise all economic activity, has joined Dubai eGovernment’s AskDubai contact centre to provide round-the-clock access to information through multiple channels on two key areas: Licenses and Commercial Permits. DED is the seventh government department to go live on the AskDubai platform for providing a more dynamic and interactive communication channel to the public.

eEmployee, the initiative from Dubai eGovernment designed to upgrade computer skills of government employees through online and classroom training leading to the ICDL (International Computer Driving Licence) certification, has generated enthusiastic response from government employees from different departments.

Online transactions represent 93 per cent of the total offline transactions in Dubai Municipality.

Qassim Sultan, Director General of Dubai Municipality, said on Sunday that the municipality’s internet portal had passed 700,000 online transaction since its launch in October 2001. There are now 1750 online transactions a day, compared to 48 transactions a month when the project started three years ago.

Dubai Municipality's e-Government project has been dubbed as one of the most successful online initiatives in the region as most of the civic services are now online and customers are increasingly dealing with the Municipality electronically rather than visiting its offices.

Sultan felicitates Mr. Julfar, Assistant Director General for Financial and Properties Affairs. Qassim Sultan, Director General of Dubai Municipality, said in a ceremony on Sunday that the municipality's web portal has accomplished recently the 700,000th online transaction since it was launched in October 2001. He noted that this was largely due to the user-friendly services the municipality offers online.
