  • Brunei: Ministry of Home Affairs To Upgrade Network System

    The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) will upgrade its network infrastructure to integrate and connect all its departments in improving their communication processes following a signing ceremony yesterday.

    The $2 million contract was signed with two private companies to upgrade its network system in supporting the implementation of e-services as well as renovation of its IT Service Centre.

    System Analyst Jamhali Yahya at the ministry told The Brunei Times that the project involves connecting the whole ministry comprising 10 departments with the infrastructure of a local area network.

  • Brunei: Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources goes online to realise ‘customer-centric’ vision

    The initiative of Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources (MIPR) has now gone online to facilitate the 47 types of services more efficiently and deliver faster notifications on outcome of applications via e-MIPR, which is in line with the ministerial client charter, Tekad Pemedulian Orang Ramai.

    The Bulletin recently obtained first-hand information regarding the initiative from e-Government representatives at the e-Government National Centre (EGNC), Prime Minister’s Office.

  • Brunei: Ministry of Religious Affairs signs more e-Govt projects

    The Ministry of Religious Affairs yesterday signed three more e-Government projects with three private contractors at a signing ceremony held at the Dewan Teratai, MRA.

    The guest of honour at the ceremony was the Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Awang Hj Abdullah bin Hj Metassim.

  • Brunei: MIPR Launches eFisheries Project

    To increase efficiency and reduce paper work, the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources yesterday morning launched its eFisheries online service, which is part of the eMIPR initiative under Brunei Darussalam's eGovernment project.

    According to the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources, Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Hamid bin Hj Mohd Jaafar, the eFisheries project is part of the ministry's initiative to heed the titah of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan, in which the public services were told to mark 2007 as the year to improve the quality of public service delivery in order to fulfil their role as facilitators of national development.

  • Brunei: Mobile Accessibility Crucial To E-Government

    Mobility and mobile devices are becoming increasingly important in e-Government with the fast growing trends of mobile e-Service.

    This was said by Chief Executive of the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry (ALTO Pg Hj Mohd Zain Pg Hj Abd Razak in his presentation titled "Mobile Connectivity - the appropriate pathway for e-Service delivery" during the Annual Asia-Pacific e-Government Conference at the Empire Hotel and Country Club yesterday.

  • Brunei: Mobile Health Solution Ready To Go Live

    A mobile health solution that allows doctors to monitor their patients from anywhere in the country is ready to go live.

    DST Group chief executive officer Idris Taher Vasi who spoke to The Brunei Times during the launch of the 2010 TechXpo on Thursday said the Mobile Health Solution was one of the products demonstrated to His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office.

    "We showed him the Mobile Health Solution (through which) a doctor can remotely monitor your health," Idris said, noting vitals that can monitored remotely include blood pressure, blood sugar levels, and increase and decrease in medication.

  • Brunei: Mobile Teaching & Learning Project Initiated

    The Mobile Teaching & Learning (Mobitel) project was initiated with a signing ceremony for the supply, delivery, installation, testing, commissioning and maintenance of related hardware and software for mobile teaching and learning in government primary and secondary schools between the Ministry of Education and AV Electronics Pte Ltd at the Business Centre of the Empire Hotel and Country Club yesterday.

    Present as the guest of honour was Dyg Hjh Norjum bte Hj Yusop, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Corporate Services) at the Ministry of Education.

  • Brunei: Moving Towards An ICT Literate Workforce

    In an effort to encourage and promote the development and expansion of ICT including advancing skills and knowledge of manpower in Brunei, the Authority for Info-communication Technology Industry Brunei (AiTi) is embarking on a long-term InfoComm Competency Training Programme that will support e-Government initiatives and boost SME's ICT skills.

    Deputy Minister of Communications, Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Yussof, said this in his speech during the recent SAP IT seminar, and added that the development of human resources in IT related fields is one of the many areas that needs to be pursued by the nation.

  • Brunei: Nationwide E-Government Citizen Survey This Month

    A Nationwide government Citizen Survey will be conducted to identify which government services need to be made available online. It is in accordance with the government Strategic Plan 2009-2014, and this survey is open to all citizens and residents of Brunei, according to a press release.

    The survey will be launched on December 4. Participants will be able to fill-in online surveys at www.egovcitizensurvey2009.gov.bn or at Brunei-Muara services counter of the government, namely: Labour Department, Immigration and National Registration, Mail Processing Centre and the Land Transport Department.

  • Brunei: New Biometric Passport To Be Launched Today

    Bruneians can soon use the new electronic or biometric passport which promises better security and faster processing, when the new passport is launched today, more than a year since the project was first signed between Brunei and the passport suppliers.

    Pehin Dato Seri Pahlawan Hj Mohammad Hj Daud highlighted this at the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Pakatan Sang Jati Dusun and Adau Gayoh (PSJD), which he officiated yesterday at the ICC.

  • Brunei: New Body Established To Support ICT Development

    The Minister of Communications yesterday announced the formation of e-Society Leadership Forum (ESLF) to support Brunei's ICT development, with the consent of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

    Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Hj Abu Bakar Hj Apong said that the ESLF will be tasked to prepare an action plan that will lead towards the development of a "sophisticated society".

    "ESLF will also identify a benchmark partner for e-Society initiatives so that we are able to see and address our shortcomings while making the most of our strengths," he said during a ceremony to mark World Telecommunication and information Society Day.

  • Brunei: New E-Islam Kiosk At Airport

    Another e-Islam information kiosk was launched on Saturday at the Departure Hall, Brunei International Airport, one of the 18 strategic locations selected by the Ministry of Religious Affairs to implement the programme.

    The kiosks, which uses up-to-date information technology, is part of the $40.69 million budget for 12 egovernment projects implemented by the ministry in its drive to go high-tech.

  • Brunei: News System Ensure Efficiency In Handling Emergency Calls

    Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Hj Awg Mohd Mandi POKDSD Dato Laila Utama Hj Awg Abd Rahman yesterday officiated and witnessed the E-Government Contract Signing between the Fire & Rescue Services Department and a local established bumiputra ICT firm Alif Technoloaies.

    The event, held at the Rizqun International Hotel in Gadong, also saw the attendance of senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Fire and Rescue Services Department, ITPSS and Alif Technologies.

  • Brunei: On-line Interactive Tool Workshop

    The Prime Minister's Office has organised a two-day workshop on 'Measure and Evaluation Tool for e-Government Readiness, METER'. The workshop was conducted by an expert from the United Nations, Senior Inter-Regional Advisor, United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, UNDESA, Mr. Richard Kerby. It was participated by the e-government players with Brunei government.

    According to Mr. Richard Kerby, METER is an online interactive tool to assist governments and decision makers in developing, monitoring, refining and improving the context within which information and communication technologies, I-C-T. It is also used to transform the government by creating the context for e-Government.

  • Brunei: Online Job-Matching System To Be Set Up

    n online job-matching system will be introduced shortly to assist local jobseekers in finding suitable employment.

    Launching the Career Carnival 2009 at the International Convention Centre in Berakas yesterday, Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Dato Hj Adanan Pehin Dato Hj Md Yusof said that the Electronic Labour Exchange or ELX will be established by the Employment Centre at the Labour Department as one of the projects planned under the e-government.

    Learning online has proved to be convenient and effective in the process of training delivery and its accessibility to knowledge is unparalleled, said Director of Civil Service Institute Hj Junaidi Hj Omar.

    He said this during the signing of the E-Training System Package project between the government and Data-Click Solutions Sdn Bhd at the institute's headquarters yesterday, adding that the online learning package will be timely and cost-effective for the benefit of the civil servants.

  • Brunei: Optimal E-Govt Needs Change In Mindset On ICT Training

    In Order for the e-Government initiative to be deployed effectively, government officers must change their mindset on the importance of training in the optimum use of ICT so they can adapt to the rapid pace of technological change and the challenges that arise from these changes, a senior c-Government official said.

    During the "Interactive Workshop on Optimizing ICT: Brunei-India Cooperation" at the Haiti building in Angered Desha on Thursday, e-Government National Centre (EGNC) Director Hi Zahra Hz Abroad said that optimizing the use of ICT covered a wide spectrum, ranging from use of technology to daily communications and day-to-day information.

  • Brunei: Over 700 Citizens Respond To Survey

    The opinions of more than 700 respondents have been received so far for the ongoing e-Government Citizen Survey, including feedback from Bruneians currently studying abroad who participated through the online version of the survey, said the Acting Director of the e-Government National Centre (EGNC).

    Hjh Mariah Hj Mohd Taha, who is also a Senior Special Duties Officer at the Prime Minister's Office, shared with The Brunei Times that the feedback of more than 400 respondents has been collected during the survey's roadshow, which has already reached the Brunei-Muara, Tutong and Temburong Districts and will see Belait District's participation on Sunday.
