  • Brunei: Queries On Development Proposals To Go Online Soon

    Building architects and engineers who submitted development proposals to approving authorities will soon be able to check the status of their applications online using an "Online Query" system.

    All "qualified persons" registered will be given a pin to access the system, most probably using their IC number. Haji Mohd Rozan bin Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yunos, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Development yesterday told the media that the system is the latest e-government application to benefit the public and hopes to improve the ease-of-doing-business in the country.

  • Brunei: Religious Affairs Takes To E-Government

    Four main e-government projects for the Ministry of Religious Affairs were officially launched yesterday by its Minister, YB Pehin Dato Seri Utama Dr. Ustaz Hj Awg Mohd Zain bin Hj Serudin.

    The four completed main projects are part of the 13 e-Government projects that have been identified by the Ministry in its push towards e-Government implementation.

    The Ministry has been allocated more than B$40 million for the 13 projects.

  • Brunei: Review sharpens e-Government process

    Brunei Shell Petroleum has made a major contribution to the implementation of e-Government in Brunei by undertaking a detailed review of the program.

    The BSP consultancy team conducted an independent progress assessment on the e-Government project for the Ministry of Communications, based on the company's extensive experience with the computerisation of work processes.

  • Brunei: Roles and functions of Public Works Dept

    At the working visit of His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, yesterday to the Public Works department, various roles and departments were highlighted, to show the technical roles and responsibilities of the departments and units under the Public Works Department. In an effort to motivate civil servants to address their roles and responsibilities with dedication and efficiency, the heads and directors of the departments briefed His Royal Highness on various on-going projects such as the 'Electronic Integrated Document Project System' (e-IDPS), where its sole purpose is to increase facilitation in design and documentation or drawings for all project execution.

  • Brunei: Sarawak set to achieve e-government status

    The Sarawak civil service has been given until 2008 to achieve full electronic-government (EG) status.

    State Secretary Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain said a full EG status would be indicated by the availability of all government services through virtual means, according to The Star yesterday.

  • Brunei: Sarawak to provide all out e-govt services

    Sarawak is set to provide "all out e-government services" by middle of next year, assured its state secretary, Datuk Abdul Aziz Hussein.

    He said the state government had set a target for all local authorities to provide their services online by the said period and the state ICT would conduct a study towards the objective this year.

    "There are cases where the public is not satisfied with some public services.

    There is an indication of a bureaucratic machinery with loads of red tape. But in Brunei, there is a movement for review with respect to decision-making and policy, and a committee has been formed called Public Service Committee to improve public service."

  • Brunei: Seminar on e-Government projects launched

    The Prime Minister's Office announced that following the contractual signing between the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Accenture Private Limited for the "consultancy services in the formulation of a government-wide and ministerial IS/IT plan including the IS/IT implementation workshop and the development of the ministerial IS/IT plan", valued at $4.75 million last month, the first of the briefing, seminar and workshop series was held at the Civil Service Institute, Kampung Rimba, yesterday.

    Over 300 participants attended a five-day seminar to utilise reference materials from online databases, as part of the Ministry of Education's e-government drive to promote electronic resources in local academic institutions.

    It is hoped that the use of electronic resources would better help teachers and students to access credible information from peer-reviewed journal articles.

    The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports is planning to develop an e-government project that will become a platform to boost its services to the public, according to the ministry's deputy permanent secretary.

    With the steady advancement of ICT comes an increase in customer needs and expectations, Hj Ahmad Hj Abd Rahman said at the launch of the ministry's Kumpulan Kerja Cemerlang (KKC) 2007 or Quality Control Convention yesterday at the Civil Institute Service in Rimba.

  • Brunei: Signing Ceremony For ACB's I-COINS Project

    Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office, Pg Dato Paduka Hj Ismail Pg Hj Mohamed, yesterday officiated the signing ceremony of the AntiCorruption Bureau's e-Government project, "Integrated Corruption Information System (I-COINS)" at the bureau's headquarters in Old Airport, Berakas.

    During the event, the permanent secretary, who is also the Chairman of the e-Government Program Executive Committee (EGPEC), witnessed the signing betweenACB and Shinba Integrated Engineering Services, the contractor for the project.

  • Brunei: Signing ceremony for PMONet IT Network infrastructure e-Govt project

    A contract signing ceremony for the PMONet IT Network infrastructure e-Government project between the Public Services Commission, the Prime Minister's Office and the local IT company, BSSyscom (B) Sdn Bhd, was held Thursday at Pubic Services Commission office.

    The project involves the establishment of the local area network infrastructure connecting the departments in building and preparing for further e-government projects in the near future under the government's e-government initiative.

  • Brunei: Signing Ceremony For Setup Of E-Govt Project

    A contract agreement for the supply, delivery, installation, development, testing and commissioning of PMONet - IT Infrastructure for the Council of State Department, Prime Minister's Office project was signed yesterday morning in the capital. It was signed between the Council of State Department and HAD Technologies.

    The guest of honour was the Chief of Council of State Department, Pengiran Indera Mahkota Pengiran Anak (Dr) Haji Kemaludin Ibni AlMarhum Pengiran Bendahara Pengiran Anak Hj Mohd Yassin.

  • Brunei: Signing of Master Contract on the Centralised Procurement of I.T. Equipment

    The e-Government National Centre, EGNC, has signed a master contract with several I.T. Companies on the centralised procurement of I.T. Equipment. With this master contract, ministries and departments can now procure I.T. equipment directly from the awarded IT companies based on the agreed fixed price without having to go through quotations or tenders.

    Signing on behalf of the government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Negara Brunei Darussalam was the Director Awang Haji Azhar bin Haji Ahmad and witnessed by Senior Special Duties Officer at the Prime Minister's Office, Awang Sairul Rhymin bin Haji C.A. Mohamed and representatives from the awarded companies. Five appointed companies for the supply of IT equipment are Unitek Company, B.S.Syscom (B) Sendirian Berhad, ZNet Technologies, Elite Computer Systems Sendirian Berhad and Ishajaya Technologies.

  • Brunei: Signing Of MoU For Implementation Of e-Govt Project IDPS

    The Government of His Majesty through the Public Works Department, Ministry of Development yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with JSY Systems and its consortium partner, Autodesk Inc, for the implementation of an e-Government project called "Integrated Document Production System" (IDPS).

    With the signing of the MoU, the parties concerned will oversee the project management, design, supply, delivery, installation, integration, testing, training, commissioning and maintenance of software, hardware and other related services for the implementation of the IDPS project.

    Human resource development and training are always considered vital by government ministries and departments as well as some private companies in ensuring success and efficiency. They always allocate funds to train staff to improve their skills.
  • Brunei: Still more room at E-Government National Centre

    There are only 358 people working at the E-Government National Centre, according to findings of the Prime Minister’s Office. The centre should house more than 500 employees who are capable of providing the requisite IT skills.

    Even though the centre has limited resources (i.e. the number of staff), people working under the centre should be given proper training to help them specialise in the industry.

  • Brunei: Strategic Plan To Achieve E-governance

    Brunei has moved a step closer towards achieving e-governance with the launching of a strategic plan yesterday that will map the way to realising the initiative over the next five years.

    The plan encompasses strategies such as increasing human capacity in Info-communications Technology (ICT), research and development of optimising online services tailored specifically for the public and improving connectivity between ministries.
