  • Brunei: ICT Strategic Plan Aims To Improve Students' Literacy

    The Infocommunication Technology (ICT) Education Strategic Blueprint (IESB) initiative will allow the Ministry of Education (MoE) to work on getting higher levels of literacy in students, making the ministry more efficient and maximising the support of teachers by improving their skills and confidence.

    Also known as the e-Hijrah, the initiative enables the ministry to establish organisational structures for a more efficient and responsive ministry, said Minister of Education Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Abu Bakar Hj Apong.

  • Brunei: ICT Workforce Key To Realising E-Governance

    E-Governance cannot be achieved unless a country has human resources equipped with the relevant knowledge in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), the group chief executive officer (CEO) of a Malaysian e-business specialist company said yesterday.

    Speaking to The Brunei Times, Tengku Farith Rithauddeen (picture) of Skali Sdn Bhd said that it was essential to train people in ICT to achieve an efficient state of e-governance.

  • Brunei: Immigration goes hi-tech

    The Enforcement Section of the Immigration and National Registration Department has gone hi-tech with the launching of its Mobile PC yesterday that can trace dubious travel documents or KPP holders during raids or inspections.

    This was one of the three products launched yesterday in the department's efforts to enhance the quality of its services to the public and to empower its law enforcement via info-communication technology.

  • Brunei: Implementation Of E-Justice A Challenging Task

    Canadian e-Justice seminar was yesterday launched at the Public Service Institute, Tungku Gadong.

    Jointly organised by the Civil Service Institute and E-Prime Networks Sdn Bhd and supported by the Canadian High Commission in the country, the guest of honour was Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office Awang Haji Ahmad bin Haji Abdul Rahman.

    The event began with welcoming remarks by president of E-Prime Networks Pg Hj Mohd Suhaimi bin PPLBIDDI Pg Hj Alauddin, during which he explained that the role of e-justice is to improve the safety and security of all citizens.

  • Brunei: Improving HR Performance Of Govt

    BAG Networks Sdn Bhd together with the government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam have set in stone the implementation of a project that involves the whole civil service based on a web-browser that can be accessed anywhere, anytime.

    The signing ceremony took place at the International Convention Centre yesterday afternoon. Awang Sa Bali Abas, Director-General of Public Service, was present to sign on behalf of His Majesty's government while Chief Executive Officer for BAG Networks, Haslina Hj Mohd Taib, signed on behalf of the company.

  • Brunei: Improving Public Service Through Proper Training

    The opening ceremony for the 12th Executive Development Programme for Senior Government Officers took place yesterday at Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and was officiated by the Vice-Chancellor of UBD, Dato Paduka Dr Awang Haji Ismail bin Haji Duraman, who was the guest of honour at the event.

    This is the 12th time the executive development programme has been offered to selected senior government officers from the Brunei Public Service.

    Under the e-government initiatives, ministries are now perusing the implementation of their agency services to help the public, said Minister of Communications Pehin Dato Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong .

  • Brunei: India IT For E-Government

    Expertise in the development of e-governance has been offered to Brunei from India's National Institute for Smart Govemment (NISG).

    Manager of Projects at the NISG Mr Amit Chakravarty (pic) spoke to the Sunday Bulletin in an interview Friday night at a dinner held at the residence of Acting Indian High Commissioner Mr Rakesh Kumar.

    "The Government of India and the Government of Brunei have signed an agreement on cooperation in the areas of ICT," said Mr Chakravarty. "Under that agreement, AITI is the focal point for Brunei, and NISG is the focal point fox India."

  • Brunei: India To Submit Fibre-Optic Rollout Study

    MTPL-Trigyn Croup, a private entity backed by the Indian government, is scheduled to submit a feasibility study on rolling out fibre-optic cable connections to homes to the Brunei Ministry of Communications today.

    ‘The group will submit the feasibility study to the Ministry of Communications. It's part of the ICT (information and communication technology) sector called 'fibre to home'." Indian High Commissioner to Brunei Riewad Warjri told The Brunei Times yesterday.

    A project system valued at close to a million dollars will further boost the efficiency and the quality of information disseminated to the entire population through project 'e-Pelita'.

    Through the implementation of the system, which costs $989,910, the population will see an increase of speed, efficiency, quantity, quality dissemination of information which are aligned with the Information Department's vision in 'Enhancing an informative society' said the Acting Director of the Information Department, Haji Mahrub Haji Murni during the signing ceremony for the e-Pelita project between the Information Department and AV Electronics Sdn Bhd yesterday at the Empire Hotel and Country Club in Jerudong.

  • Brunei: Initiative To Bridge Digital Divide

    Microsoft Corporation will make its way to rural communities to train and equip Bruneians with IT skills in bridging the digital divide and support Brunei's e-government initiative.

    The multinational company is collaborating with non-profit organisation Infocom Federation of Brunei to; bring IT training and assessment to the doorsteps of those in rural areas.

    Microsoft Country Manager Azizah Ali said that they will start the training sessions in January next year to improve digital literacy in Brunei.

  • Brunei: IT boost to govt medical facilities

    A $2.7 MILLION contract aimed to provide IT equipment to all government medical facilities was signed yesterday at the Ministry of Health, Berakas.

    The Leasing of Personal Computers and Peripherals Agreement entails the distribution of 1,380 units of IT equipment by Komputer Wisman Sdn Bhd to all government hospitals, health centres, clinics, treatment centres and health related offices.

  • Brunei: IT Equipment Procurement Project

    Meanwhile, one of the big projects under the e-Government initiatives which will be implemented starting this year is the IT equipment Central Procurement project for Ministries and its departments.

    According to the Deputy Permanent Secretary of IT and e-Government at the Prime Minister's Office, Awang Abdul Mutalib as the overall government CIO, the project follows the best practices in other countries that are developed in the field of IT. With such efforts, the supply of IT equipment such as computers and printers will be supplied continuously under the management of e-Government National Centre according to the guidelines and process procedures provided by the EGNC. These efforts are to facilitate and expedite the IT equipment procurement and supply process to every Ministry and its departments.

  • Brunei: IT Experts Highlight Priorities And Challenges

    The second day of the International Conference on e-Government and Administrative Simplification identified and analysed the opportunities and challenges of e-Government in Brunei.

    Among the matters discussed were recommendations and consultations for better development and implementation of e-Government. One of the local speakers was Haji Mohiddin Haji Mus from the Prime Minister's Office who made a presentation on the development of e-Government in Brunei Darussalam.

    Management experts from two foreign consultancies said using information technology (IT) with business concepts would ensure the common outcome of service delivery across an entire organisation.

    Senior professionals from the management consultancy firm Quint Wellington Redwood Asia, Asia-Pacific, Japan and the Middle East, and IT management software provider CA Malaysia told The Brunei Times that marrying IT and business concepts, rather than merely aligning them, would be an effective step for organisations.

    The servers for the "Sistem Maklumat Islam Fasa 1" (SisMI Phase 1) or Islamic Information System Phase I for the Ministry of Religious Affairs were presented by its contractor, HakbaSkali Sdn Bhd yesterday morning.

  • Brunei: ITB launches its third e-Govt project 'e-RIS'

    Institute Technology Brunei (ITB) has marked another milestone with the launching of its third e-Government project, "e-RIS" (Electronic Resources and Information Services), which will be used to digitise archive materials at ITB's library.

    Prior to the "e-RIS", two other e-Government projects for ITB were implemented namely "Network Engineering Education Resources Implementation" and "Hardware and Software Infrastructure".

  • Brunei: ITB Library To Go Online Under Upgrade

    The Ministry of Education and ZimacSilicon Technologies Sdn Bhd (ZST) yesterday penned a contract to upgrade the library service at the Institute Technology Brunei (ITB).

    The contract incorporates the design, supply, upgrading, installation, migration and commissioning of software and hardware for the implementation of an integrated Electronic Resource and Information Services (e-RIS), involving digitisation work for its archive collection and subscription to online databases.
