Through the implementation of the system, which costs $989,910, the population will see an increase of speed, efficiency, quantity, quality dissemination of information which are aligned with the Information Department's vision in 'Enhancing an informative society' said the Acting Director of the Information Department, Haji Mahrub Haji Murni during the signing ceremony for the e-Pelita project between the Information Department and AV Electronics Sdn Bhd yesterday at the Empire Hotel and Country Club in Jerudong.
Haji Mahrub said the introduction of the e-Pelita system is in-line with the rapid advancement of ICT development leading to the e-Government initiative that are aligned with the national objectives and goals of Brunei Information Technology (BIT).
With the project, it will also increase the capacity of human resource development and the productivity of the department through the dissemination of information to members of the public added the director.
He continued, the project which will take a duration of five months to be completed, will be handled by AV Electronics Sdn Bhd contracted to provide the service of supply, delivery, installation, testing, commissioning, training and maintenance of the project.
Other than the press division responsible for the dissemination of the Pelita Brunei publication, the flagship e-Pelita project will involve three other sections which include the photography section, English News section as well as web site section said Haji Mahrub, adding that it will develop a system of interconnectivity among officers and staff involved in publication duties.
Through the system the facilities which include, directives and information of duties of personnel, database, editing facilities, advertisement management, proof reading and connectivity of printing systems with both government and commercial printers.
AV Electronics Sdn Bhd, Marketing Manager, Hj Yussoff Soffian Hj Md Freddie in his presentation said, the e-Pelita project is hoped to develop a highly efficient publishing industry in the sultanate, moving away from manual workflow processes and the implementation of state-of-the-art cross media publishing technologies.
