Speaking to The Brunei Times, Tengku Farith Rithauddeen (picture) of Skali Sdn Bhd said that it was essential to train people in ICT to achieve an efficient state of e-governance.
"Without ICT-savvy locals, you cannot have e-governance," he said.
Tengku Farith made these remarks after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with telecommunications provider Telbru, where the e-business firm will provide "value-added elements" to the newly-established Telbru ICT Leadership and Management Academy.
Skali will assist the academy on internationally- recognised certification by enhancing industry relevant training and specialised entrepreneurship development, coaching and mentoring, according to a press statement by Telbru.
The ICT industry is always four or five steps ahead of educational institutions, so we have to keep pace with them, the CEO said while highlighting the roles of the academy.
He explained that the courses provided at the academy will "refresh" students' minds so that they can keep up with the constantly changing technologies.
Tengku Farith also spoke of how the academy will aid develop entrepreneurial characteristics among ICT students.
"Entrepreneurship is synonymous with innovation," he said, elaborating that from the courses, the students will learn to think in new ways, essential for continuous ICT learning.
Among the courses that will be made available at the academy include information communications networking, security, database management and leadership management modules.
Telbru also inked a deal with the Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB), who will provide the necessary facility and infrastructure for the academy at the Knowledge Hub in Anggerek Desa. On hand to sign was BEDB CEO Vincent Cheong and witnessed by BEDB Assistant CEO and Head of Stakeholder Relations Division Dr Abd Manaf Hj Metussin.
During the MoU signing between Telbru and Skali, Tengku Farith signed on behalf of the Malaysian company, while Special Officer to Group CEO Afzal Mohd Khalid was on hand as witness.
For both MoU's, Telbru was represented by its Managing Director Song Kin Koi, while the academy's General Manager Hjh Hasnah Hj Azri was witness.
The establishment of the academy is hoped to boost the nation's human capital development, specifically in the ICT sector.
"The Telbru ICT Leadership and Management Academy strives in creating and developing world-class ICT workforce for Brunei and to provide professional and integrated technology in enabling quality delivery of teaching, learning, research and services," the statement said.
The signing ceremony took place at Telbru's headquarters at Old Airport, Berakas.
