  • Brunei: Deal inked for online e-Services

    The Ministry of Home Affairs and Aria Enterprise yesterday signed an agreement for an e-Government project on the supply, delivery, installation, testing, commissioning, training and maintenance of IT infrastructure and e-services for the Ministry of Home Affairs.

    The implementation of this e-Government project at the cost of $25,889,493.80 is expected to be completed in 21 months.

    The first e-government Leadership Forum (EGLF) for 2008 was yesterday held at the Centre for Strategic and Policy Studies (CSPS) in Gadong.

    Discussions were held on the need for cooperation, and to raise professionalism and commitment among the agencies. This is in order to manage issues related to the materialisation of an e-government.

  • Brunei: Driving Licence, Road Tax Being Upgraded

    Bruneians may be able to get their hands on the new driving licence within this year, provided the relevant policy work is in order, an IT system supervisor at the Land Transport Department shared yesterday.

    The licence will potentially hold security features that will increase the authenticity of the licence, making it more difficult to forge, a problem not foreign to the existing driving licence.

    In an interview during the` preparations for the e-government exhibition, which opens today at The Mall, the government official said that the format and layout of the policy has already been proposed and its implementation only had to wait for the policy and paperwork to be drawn up.

    The Prime Minister's Office yesterday held a ceremony to mark the official launching of the e-Government Strategic Plan 2009-2014, laying the roadmap for all e-government projects from 2009 up to 2014.

    Launching the event was Dato Seri Paduka Eussoff Agaki Haji Ismail, the Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister's Office cum Chairman of the E-Government Leadership Forum. Also in attendance was YAM Pengiran Anak Khairul Khalil bin Pengiran Syed Haji Jaafari, Assistant Executive Officer at the Prime Minister's Office.

    An efficient and comprehensive e-government system will enable the business sector to experience quality online services, which will in turn, enhance the development of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) through e-business and the building of human capacity in ICT (Information and Communications Technology), said an official from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

    E-Governance is the foundation that will enable the successful implementation of e-government projects, said the chairman of the E-Government Leadership Forum (EGLF) yesterday during the launching of the Second Annual Asia-Pacific e-Government Forum.

    His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam expressed his disappointment on the use of e-Government strategy and Information Technology (IT) in the Sultanate 10 years since its implementation with a budget of B$1 billion.

    Brunei Darussalam's bid to improve its government agencies' capabilities and to ensure effective public service delivery has moved into high gear with the opening of its e-government national centre. Starting its operation yesterday, the centre' will provide services in the aspects of operations, acquisition and human resource development in the field of in formation and Communication Technology (ICT), which are related to e-government initiatives especially in the civil service, according to a statement by the Prime Minister's Office.

    Recruitment of prospective candidates to fill up information technology (IT) vacancies is the top priority for the E-Government National Centre this year as they are in the process of drawing up plans to address the shortage of IT manpower in the civil service, said a senior official at the Prime Minister's Office.

  • Brunei: e-Government citizen survey lucky draw presentation

    The e-Government citizen survey lucky draw prizes were given yesterday to recipients during a ceremony held at The Mall, Gadong. Hjh Mariah Hj Mohd Taha, Acting Director at the e-Government National Centre presented the prizes to the lucky winners. Prizes comprised a notebook, a camera and a complimentary hotel stay.

    The lucky recipients who received the prizes amongst 1,459 respondents were Abdul Qoyyuum bin Haji Abdul Kadir, Eliza Aziz and Tie Tong Thuong. The e-Government citizen survey was launched on December 4, where it was released online and manually through roadshows, focus groups and surveys strategically placed at Brunei Government services counters.

  • Brunei: e-Government exhibition opens in Belait

    The Prime Minister's Office yesterday launched an e-Government exhibition in the Belait District to create better understanding among the pubic on the initiatives and development of e-government implementation in the country.

    Present to officiate the launch, which took place at the Belait Municipal Hall was the Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office, Awg Abd Mutalib bin POKSSDP Hj Mohd Yusof.

    Among the latest development in Brunei Darussalam's e-government initiative is the implementation of provision of online services by government agencies.

    The e-payment project which is linked to a number of Ministries or government agencies have been identified and will be given priority. Apart from that, in 2 years time, starting this year, 27 thousand civil servants have been targeted to take part in training programmes as part of the efforts to further strengthen and expand the ICT capacity in the country's civil servants.     "E-Government is an ongoing journey. In Brunei, the first five years of the journey, from 2001 to 2005 has well established the adoption and awareness of the e-Government program in the ministries and other key stakeholders."
