Transforming Government since 2001
The Government of His Majesty through the Public Works Department, Ministry of Development yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with JSY Systems and its consortium partner, Autodesk Inc, for the implementation of an e-Government project called "Integrated Document Production System" (IDPS).

With the signing of the MoU, the parties concerned will oversee the project management, design, supply, delivery, installation, integration, testing, training, commissioning and maintenance of software, hardware and other related services for the implementation of the IDPS project.

The signing ceremony, which was held at the Ministry of Development, was witnessed by the chief guest, Hj Ibrahim bin Hj Ismail, Permanent Secretary of Administration and Finance at the Ministry of Development.

Signing on behalf of the government were Hj Suhaimi bin Flj Gafar, acting deputy director general of Public Works, and Hjh Maihani Hj Abd Hamid, acting director of Technical Services, Public Works Department.

The other signatories ofthe MoU were Hj Samat bin Hj Abas, managing director ofJSY Systems, and Mr Sivadas Ramadas, regional director for AutodeskAsean.

The $7.5 million project will be completed in September 2007, according to a representative of JSY Systems. Five years of after sales maintenance will also be provided.

Meanwhile, JSY Systems' consortium partner, Autodesk Inc based in Singapore, will be responsible for supplying the Software Solution for B.I.M and Design Solution for Civil Engineering. Other partners include CSC Asia, Davis Langdon & Seah, and Asiasoft.

JSY Systems would also set up a centre for all the software in the Sultanate, which is expected to be in operation next year.

Yesterday's signing of the MoU marked the inauguration of a very important project for the Ministry of Development. The IDPS is one of the e-Government projects for the Ministry of Development.

There are nine e-Government projects under the Ministry of Development, where the Public Works Department has been selected to be the leading implementing agency for four e-Government projects namely "Project Management

Information System Enterprise" (PROMISe), "Integrated Document Production System" (IDPS), "Integrated Maintenance Management System" (IMMS) and "e-Billing Information Systems" (eBIS).

Implementation of PROMISe began in 2005 and is currently in operation. As for IDPS and IMMS, these projects are expected to be operational in 2007. The eBIS project meanwhile is still under evaluation.

The IDPS will provide a technology and process platform that will enable the Public Works Department's architects, engineers, designers and project managers to utilise world-class standardised processes. It will also give designers involved in public infrastructure the ability to do more concurrent design activities.

Furthermore, it will help designers enhance their design capabilities by providing them with higher quality technology tools. It will also help increase the re-use of information/data between building projects to reduce duplication of effort and thus, maximising the utilisation of manpower resources.

In addition, IDPS will also introduce a new platform for the local construction industry in the project tendering process.

Once the IDPS has been fully implemented, the platform will allow tendering process to be done over the Internet, where the collection and submission of tender documents can be done online.

This is one of the government's meritorious projects to provide better service to the public.
