  • Brunei: Strategies For More Efficient Civil Servants

    The Civil Service has continuously introduced and implemented several strategies for its transformation.

    These programmes include 100 training hours introduced this year at all levels to enhance skills, ability and to contribute towards the effectiveness of the organization continuously.

  • Brunei: Success of e-government relies on people too

    The success of e-government does not rely on hardware and software but on the effectiveness and skills of human resources and in continuous applications, practice and development of applications introduced in the respective e-government plans.

    Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), Pehin Dato Paduka Awg Hj Hazair Hj Abdullah, made these remarks at the launching of the Enterprise Data Centre (EDC) at the Secretariat Building in the capital, which he officiated.

  • Brunei: Sultanate ranked 63rd in ICT readiness index

    Brunei Darussalam has been ranked 63rd out of 133 countries in the Networked Readiness Index (NRI) of the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Global Information Technology Report 2009-2010.

    The report highlights the key role of ICT as an enabler of a more economically, environmentally and socially sustainable world.

    This is Brunei’s second entry into the report and this time a rise has been seen under the “Readiness” category, where it was given the overall rank of 5155, with Business Readiness rising from 67th to 37th and Government Readiness rising from 45th to 29th, though Individual Readiness has fallen from 40th to 76th.

  • Brunei: Sultanate’s E-Brunei Vision

    His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam underlined the importance of ICT access for all as a way to develop and improve the quality of our lives and envisioned the Sultanate achieving the e-Brunei status.

  • Brunei: Survey conducted to improve e-Government initiatives

    To further enhance and improve public services to the citizen and residents of Brunei Darussalam through internet, an e-Government citizen survey is currently being carried out by the Prime Minister’s Office with Infocom Federation Brunei in collaboration with E-government National Centre and Bag Network.

    Launched in conjunction with the e-Government Strategic Plan 2009-2014, the key objective of the survey is to seek feedback from citizens to further improve the government services provided to the people (”Rakyat”) by providing a multiple channel of delivery to citizens.

  • Brunei: TAFIS's new breakthrough towards paperless environment

    The Ministry of Finance's Treasury Accounting and Financial Information Systems or TAFIS has achieved another breakthrough towards a "paperless" environment.

    Starting from September 1, 2003, the process of physically delivering diskettes to banks containing EFT payments will be replaced by electronic transfers of these files. Likewise for bank statements, banks will now transfer 'eStatements' to TAFIS.

    Dyg Masni Hj Mohsin, Acting Director of Brunei Industrial Development Authority (BINA) said that local SMEs could further enhance and achieve competitiveness and the viability of their business through eBINA which is part of the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources eGovernment initiative.

    The evolution of the Internet has paved the way to a new era in education delivery method, one that must be taken full advantage of especially with the advent of e-Government initiatives in the country, scheduled to be fully implemented by next year.

    The impact that the Internet has brought upon society as a whole opens wide opportunities to distribute education and training afforded by the Internet, and offers challenges as earlier paradigms have already been applied to such a technology. Students now clamour on simple online access to course materials and this results in an urgent move towards a change in the instructional delivery.

    The lecture held in tandem with the Prime Minister's Office was an informative course of dialogue regarding `Open Source Software' (OSS), in particular the expansion and OSS initiatives that have been implemented within the public sector in Malaysia.

  • Brunei: Temburong Dialogue Reaches Grassroots

    Grassroot leaders yesterday were urged to increase their knowledge, especially in areas of information and communication technology (ICT), as they will be the main movers of the e-Kampung (e-Village) system which is scheduled to be implemented soon.

    Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Adanan BPSK Dato Seri Setia Hj Md Yusof said this yesterday, stating that this is in line with the ministry's long-term strategic plan of "increasing human resource capability".

  • Brunei: The 2009-2014 edition of the e-Government Strategic Plan

    The 2009-2014 edition of the e-Government Strategic Plan among others targets at least 100 online services with various channels of delivery as well as for every civil servant to own a government e-mail account by 2014. In line with the e-Government vision and mission for Brunei Darussalam, the Prime Minister's Office through the e-Government National Centre, EGNC with the cooperation of Ministries and relevant agencies which are actively implementing several services online including transaction services will act as the monitoring and implementing body towards achieving the stated objectives.

    The early analysis conducted by experts at the United Nations recently found that the e-Government Services for Brunei Darussalam is at the developing level in view of the fact that services online are non-existent. According to the Deputy Permanent Secretary of IT and e-Government at the Prime Minister's Office, Awang Abdul Mutalib in his capacity as the overall government CIO, the e-Government National Centre gives priority to identifying and implementing any services online that will be provided to the public.

  • Brunei: The 3-day International Conference on e-Government ended today

    The three-day International Conference on e-Government and Administrative simplication ended today. Speaking at the closing session, the Acting Director of the National E-government Centre, Dayang Hajah Mariah Hj Mohd Taha said the future government services may depend on mobile phones as they have better penetration in the public.

    In an interview, Dayang Hajah Mariah stated that re-organization and improvement of the public organizations, human capacity building and how to measure performance of e-Government project is undeniably significant to make a government successful. She added one of the top priorities shown from a recent survey done by the National E-government Centre will be putting more services online for the ease of the public.

    The government of Brunei Darussalam's latest contract for an online portal could be one of the most cutting-edge projects yet to be embraced here under the e-government initiative.

    The Ministry of Education signed a deal yesterday with local firm TechnoNet Sdn Bhd on the provision of the Enterprise Service Portal, which looks set to top all enterprise information management (EIM) systems in scale and functionality.

  • Brunei: Think Big Technology forum with the topic e-Government: Connecting with the citizens"

    It has been 10 years since e-Government was introduced to the country and most had been focused on the infrastructure and the back end of the system. After the launch of the e-Government Startegic Plan in May 2009 the main focus for e-Government now is towards citizen centric services.

    According to Awang Haji Azhar, e-Government actually gives more improvement in delivering government services especially to the 3 main stakeholders comprising the citizens, businesses and civil services. In a citizen survey conducted in 2009 added the Deputy Permanent Secretary, they found out that Education services was one of the top priority that the citizens wants the government to look into. This includes suggestion that the government provides the facility for online applications including students transfer to another school, registration, and application for business licences.
