Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are encouraged to take advantage of online business facilitation services in a bid to further develop the country's economy.

Dyg Masni Hj Mohsin, Acting Director of Brunei Industrial Development Authority (BINA) said that local SMEs could further enhance and achieve competitiveness and the viability of their business through eBINA which is part of the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources eGovernment initiative.

Speaking at the launch of eBINA road show yesterday, she said, "BINA is envisioned to be the centre of excellence for industrial and cooperative development, whilst creating and enhancing industrial and cooperative development for sustainable SMEs capable of exporting to the international market." She added that fast and efficient business friendly eBINA would enable local and foreign investors who plan to set up industries in the sultanate to secure licenses and the required services from BINA.

She urged business owners in the sultanate to take full advantage of recently introduced eMIPR Business Facilitation services to reduce drawbacks of their businesses.

Through eBINA services local SMEs can lower costs, increase productivity, widen market penetration thus leading the increase of profitability of their businesses.

"eBINA online service has no additional costs and users will find this an easy service to use, allowing access of the service anytime and anywhere, not limiting to existing government office hours. With the development of the online service, queues and waiting time will be reduced," said the acting director.

Dyg Masni went on to say that through eBINA a whole range of services provided by BINA, MIPR and related government agencies can be secured by SMEs. Currently, the application of industrial sites and complexes, registration of cooperatives are available.

By July 2007, the implementation eMIPR Business Facilitation Service will be fully completed and implemented. The private sector will then be able to apply to other services which include licenses and permits, promotion, investment incentives, standards services and laboratory services from related government agencies.

Business Help Centres have also been set up in all offices of BINA nationwide.With these centres, the latest generation of computers will be available, whilst IT officers will on hand to assist and support the computer illiterate.

Speaking to The Brunei Times, Zainalabidin Salleh, general manager of Primatel Communications of the two companies sourced for MIPR egovernment initiative said, through it the service will improve whilst creating a 'paperless' environment.

He said, "Directly, eBINA will increase productivity, and indirectly this will further promote Brunei online, and lead to the growth of its private sector."

The Ministry recently launched its government initiative, the eMIPR, an online business facilitation service. The single window or online business facilitation web service provides easy access to services of the ministry and the departments under it to attract foreign investors.
