As a toolkit supporting online transactions, including e-financial transactions, digital signatures have been essential in the digitisation strategy of the banking sector. Even though the legality of digital signatures has been recognised by Vietnamese laws, some risks and obstacles still undermine their use.

The increase in digital commerce in the past two years has gone hand-in-hand with an increase in the use of cashless payments and online banking transactions. “E-financial transactions” are financial transactions that are implemented by electronic means.

Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City Phan Van Mai has urged for breakthrough strategy to make the city’s digital transformation a success.

Meeting with ICT businesses and experts on Friday, he emphasized five immediate tasks: support mechanisms for businesses in digital transformation; human resource strategy; strategy to ensure information security and safety; data strategy; plan to build Ho Chi Minh City into a hub of transferring, connecting, storing and processing data. Mr. Mai called for active contributions of associations, businesses, experts and individuals to co-design the city's digital transformation.

The Ho Chi Minh City Economic Forum 2022, which opened on April 15 discussed policy mechanisms, challenges and solutions in boosting digital transformation and improving business competitiveness.

The forum basically focused on how the nation’s biggest city and economic hub can support firms to achieve digital transformation to help develop a digital economy.

The annual international event, themed “Digital economy: Driving force for growth and development of Ho Chi Minh City” was attended by more than 900 delegates, including leaders of the Government, various ministries and sectors.

With HCMC seeking to become a digital powerhouse by 2030, experts say more investment is needed in infrastructure and training to improve its ability to adopt technology.

City chairman Phan Van Mai said the aim is to become a smart city with modern services and industries by 2025, and a leader in the areas of digital economy, digital society and digital government by 2030.

The digital economy will account for 25 percent of the economy by 2025 and 40 percent by 2030, more ambitious targets than the country’s.

A seminar was held in Ho Chi Minh City on March 29, discussing how to build a barrier-free smart city for people with disabilities (PWDs), towards a future in which no one is left behind.

The event is an activity of the Vietnam Social and Innovation Challenge Village within the framework of the National Innovative Entrepreneurship Day (Techfest Vietnam 2022).
