Phenikaa-X Joint Stock Company, a member of Phenikaa University in Hà Nội, will work with Viettel Networks and Qualcomm to build a mini-smart city within the Phenikaa University campus, following a Memorandum of Understanding inked between the three sides in Hà Nội on Tuesday.

The Phenikaa University Smart Mini-City Campus project, the first of its kind in Việt Nam, will contribute to the development of smart cities across the country, according to the Government’s strategy to 2030, as well as to the global development of smart cities.

Thales has signed an extensive deal with Vietnam’s VNPT to accelerate the country’s digital transformation with biometrics, smart city and other technologies.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU), signed in the presence of the Prime Ministers of France and Vietnam, outline an ambitious set of goals around digitizing Vietnam’s economy, strengthening its cybersecurity and telecommunications infrastructure, and supporting digital identity. ‘Digital Identity & Biometrics’ is one of four “key digital topics” identified in the arrangement.

A symposium themed “Developing a smart city with urbanization associated with industrialization and modernization toward 2030, with a vision to 2045” took place on Wednesday in the framework of the on-going Industry 4.0 Summit and Expo.

It’s one of 10 symposiums organized by the Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission and related agencies.

This was the content mentioned by Deputy Minister of Construction Le Quang Hung at the seminar "Developing smart cities in the process of urbanization associated with industrialization and modernization to 2030, Vision to 2045" hosted by the Central Economic Commission in the form of direct combination online, on November 10.

Deputy Minister of Construction Le Quang Hung noted that the Ministry are urgently developing basic criteria for smart cities to be applied in all urban areas, suitable for urban areas in Vietnam; Building legal foundations, regulations and standards for smart cities; Building interconnected (digitized) database of land, planning, traffic, population and other urban spatial data; Developing smart cities planning, applying GIS; Developing infrastructure systems for smart cities; Management and operation of smart phones.

According to Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Huy Dung, in the context of Vietnam accelerating national digital transformation, smart city development is digital transformation in that urban area. Smart cities cannot be separated from local digital transformation.

The basic driving force for socio-economic development

On November 2, the Vietnam Software and IT Services Association (VINASA) and the Asia-Pacific Computing Industry Organization (ASOCIO) officially opened the Vietnam Smart City Summit – ASOCIO 2021, attended by Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Huy Dung, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Tran Van Tung.
