Smart cities around the world are modernising urban areas in incredibly innovative ways. In Vietnam, developing smart cities is expected to address population growth in the country's major urban centres.

According to a 2019 report by the General Statistics Office of Vietnam, the country has seen 6.4 million people migrate to big cities where they can find better jobs and earn more income.

Blockchain tech is accelerating as a key factor for national development, contributing to accelerating Vietnam’s digital transformation process as it applies to different industries and business arenas.

At the Vietnam Blockchain Summit on October 19, which saw the participation of 150 foreign delegates from more than 30 economies around the world, Truong Gia Binh, chairman of FPT Corporation, said blockchain has outstanding characteristics and qualities of anti-forgery, transparency, and decentralisation.

The Vietnam-Republic of Korea (RoK) co-operation centre on smart cities and construction technology (VKC) will promote research and training in the field of advanced construction technologies, contributing to the development of smart cities in Vietnam.

This goal was affirmed during the launching ceremony of the “Vietnam–RoK cooperation center for smart city and construction technology (VKC)” which was jointly organised by the Vietnamese Ministry of Construction and the RoK’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MoLIT) in Hanoi on October 11.

The Political Bureau's Resolution to build and develop Da Nang until 2030 with vision to 2045, will change Da Nang into a smart city and connect it with the network of smart cities in Vietnam and ASEAN by 2030. To realize this goal, Da Nang worked out a digital transformation project, defining digital transformation as an impetus to develop itself into a modern, livable, and smart eco-city.

The initial success of Da Nang’s digital transformation is thanks to the apps and channels that facilitate people and businesses. Many apps have proved to be effective, including multi-service platform, Danang Smart City, giventake app, and Chatbot app, providing consultation on administrative procedures and public service.

A month in response to National Digital Transformation Day and the TATU Audio Social Network were launched at a ceremony in Hanoi on Sunday.

October 10 is observed as National Digital Transformation Day in Vietnam, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Huy Dung said, adding that October has been designated digital consumption month to encourage people to enjoy the benefits that digital transformation brings.
