The Hanoi People’s Council has decided to exempt people from fees when conducting 82 administrative procedures online, believing that the move will encourage people to use online public services.

Before the ‘zero-dong’ resolution was approved by the Hanoi People’s Council in July 2023, Nguyen Xuan Luu, director of the Hanoi Finance Department said in 2022, the total budget collection from fees and charges in Hanoi was VND9.72 trillion, but only VND36.5 billion was collected online. The majority of people (70 percent) still preferred offline administrative procedures.

The Hanoi Department of Transport's proposal to pilot a smart traffic system in the capital in the last half of the year has been approved, as part of the city's broader effort to gradually develop a smart transport network within its smart city framework.

Under the pilot plan proposed by the Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group (Viettel), a smart traffic management centre will be established at the municipal public transport management and operation centre at No.1 Kim Ma street, Ba Dinh district. Additionally, equipment will be installed at two pilot intersections on Pham Van Bach street in Cau Giay district.

The central city of Da Nang and the World Bank (WB) will be boosting cooperation in building digital database management as a crucial way towards full digitalisation and becoming a ‘smart’ city.

Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Ho Ky Minh asked the WB to support them in the use of digital database solutions for communities and businesses, during a working session.

The Vietnam Data Security Joint Stock Company has unveiled the DataTrust platform, the first platform to comply with personal data protection regulations in the country.

It was launched at the seminar 'Building Policies for Personal Data Protection' organised by the Ministry of Public Security in Hanoi on June 5.

DataTrust is the first digital platform in Vietnam to administer privacy rights in the fields of cybersecurity and safeguarding data.

The Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) has decided that all 27 million Vietnamese households will be able to access fiber optic cable services in the 2024-2025 period.

The information and communications infrastructure development planning in 2021-2030 approved by the Prime Minister in January 2024 focuses on digital infrastructure development. The telecommunications infrastructure is expected to transform digital infrastructure.
