The IT Ministry has translated its goals for e-government into reality registering a record 129,000 online transactions in July.
The gov.mt portal reported no fewer than eight million hits in July alone and transactions have more than doubled in the space of two months.

The governments IT system is being replaced in a project that will cost US$9 million over a five year period. The project will be carried out by a Maltese consortium. In an interview, the head of the Malta Information Technology and Training Services Limited (MITTS) David Spiteri Gingell said the contract will be signed next month and the new system will be in place by September 2004 at the latest.
Introducing e-libraries Scholars, students and book lovers can now browse or search through the massive collection of books, make reservations and renew their borrowed items online through the new electronic service for libraries called e-libraries on www.libraries-archives.gov.
For the business community, transacting online with the government is now becoming the norm. Having easy and convenient online access to government services at all times means saving time and money for businesses. This is in line with Maltas national drive to promote a pro-enterprise environment and to facilitate business growth.
Following the success registered last week when 8,000 students received their exam results on SMS, more mobile-phone services from government will be launched over the coming weeks.
