Some of Malta's public libraries are now online.

Internet users can browse through all catalogues and reserve their preferred books. One can also choose any available book and then pick it up from any public library. This is the latest service being offered by Government as part of the e-government scheme. The public libraries are online at www.libraries-archives.gov.mt.

Information Technology and Investment Minister Austin Gatt launched the e-libraries scheme on Friday. He said the service is a clear indication of the government's commitment to provide the best possible service via the internet.

All books available at the National Library in Floriana, the regional libraries in Luqa, Mosta, Birkirkara, Paola and Qormi, the Central Library in Gozo, the Reference Section in Victoria and other regional libraries are now available online.

Malta's mission to attain a first-class information society is developing constantly and successfully. The initial principles and success factors to this objective were set in the year 2000.

The government has already launched numerous online services, including e-examinations, e-Licences, e-Rents, the Public Registry, immovable property, and the Inland Revenue website.
