Deputy Prime Minister also Chairman of the High Communications and Information Technology Committee His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa on Wednesday received representatives of government ministries and directorates who had contributed in the compilation of the UN e-Government Readiness Report2014.

His Highness presented recognition certifications to members of the committees and teams.

Pension queries could soon be answered at the touch of a button thanks to a new online service being launched by the Social Insurance Organisation (SIO).

In the past, citizens would have to visit an SIO office in person to check on their pension entitlement '“ but with the 'e-key' system launched yesterday, such visits may soon become a thing of the past.

Bahrain has become the only state from the Middle East to be recognised by the United Nations (UN) for outstanding progress in eGovernment.

The recognition is for countries that have sought to revamp eGovernment portals and IT projects and link government entities in a manner that enhances their online presence as a unified entity.

Bahrain's older generation must be given training in new technology if eGovernment services are to be successful, according to a visiting United Nations (UN) observer.

Manned kiosks dotted around the country offering a "one-stop shop" for all government services could be set up to complement the existing eGovernment website and associated mobile apps, UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs interregional adviser for eGovernment Richard Kerby told the GDN.

The government of Bahrain plans to introduce a mobile application for key services to enable members of the public to register complaints, suggestions and enquiries about government services direct from their mobile phones, Gulf Daily News reported. Plans are under way to develop an application for the national complaints and suggestion system Tawasul, which is currently available online. No date has been announced for the launch. It will allow the public to provide feedback on their experience with 23 ministries and departments.
