Minister of Transportation and Acting CEO of the Economic Development Board (EDB) Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed has lauded the positive results achieved by the kingdom in United Nations e-Government Survey.

Speaking during one of the workshops of the UN public Service Conference 2014 in Korea, he said that Bahrain was ranked 18 globally in the e-Government index, before many European and Asian countries.

The official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs www.mofa.gov.bh won the e-government’s Gold Shield and Certificate of Excellence for Interactive Innovation on the category of government bodies’ and official institutions’ websites for 2014.

This came at the 5th Round of the E-government Excellence Awards, member of the Pan-Arab Excellence Awards Academy. The award is offered by the Dubai-based Arab Organisation for Social Responsibility and the Pan-Arab Web Awards Academy.

Director of General Directorate of Traffic, Shaikh Nasser bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, said that within the Traffic Department's efforts to facilitate all traffic procedures concerning citizens and residents, the Traffic Department in cooperation with the e-government provides a range of electronic services aim to enable citizens and residents to carry out traffic procedures smoothly and efficiently.

The move aims to cope with the future increasing demand expected by 6% on traffic services which is equivalent to 20,000 vehicles per year.

Bahrain, represented by the eGovernment Authority (eGA), is participating in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS+10) which began in Geneva yesterday.

It is part of the kingdom's firm commitment and participatory pivotal role with the international community in order to review the significant global results and challenges within the information and communications (ICT) sector.

The high-level event is being held at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) headquarters in Geneva until Friday.

The e-Government Authority's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mohammed Ali Al Qaed has affirmed that the Arab content on the Internet is below the expected because of the limited interest of individuals, organisations and governments in it, stressing the importance of developing it through the establishment of research centers specialised in the advancement of Arab content on the Internet.

Al Qaed was speaking as he patronised here today the opening of the Arab e-Content Forum entitled "Prospects and creating new opportunity for development and investment".
