A vast number of international participants hailed the organisation and impact of Bahrain International eGovernment Forum 2014.

The event was held under the patronage of Deputy Prime Minister and Supreme Committee for Information and Communication Technology chairman Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, at the Ritz-Carlton Bahrain Hotel and Spa.

The Bahrain IT Expo 2014, along with eight parallel workshops, was held at the Bahrain International Circuit.

Moreover, numerous stakeholders from GCC and Arab countries and citizens expressed satisfaction with the event's organisation.

"The event was very well organised and I would most certainly attend another forum if I was invited," United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information and Management co-chair and Ordnance Survey International secretary-general Dr Vanessa Lawrence said.

"All the people who I have met are outstanding contributors, the directed questions at the end of my session were very good."

"The objective of bringing international speakers and sharing knowledge and information around the world is critical to make eGovernments work, all of us can learn from one another," said University of Ottawa professor and eGovernment consultant Dr Shauneen Furlong.

"One of the biggest challenges of eGovernments is to go beyond using technology to put services online, that has been done in the last decade.

"The eGovernment is about to put new innovative transformational solutions that are not just giving citizens services but benefiting from the power and opportunities of technology," she added.

"NGOs had a prominent presence and an active role in the success of the forum," said Ebtikar Society founder and president Osama Abdulrahim Al Khaja.

"The forum was distinguished with diversified participations and topics, in addition to the quality and range of presentations in the exhibition; particularly that it included seven interactive workshops and an exclusive forum for innovation and entrepreneurship in information and communication technology (ICT)."

The forum was attended by more than 5,000 people while the workshops saw participation from 67 speakers.

As many as 850 delegates from 17 countries attended the opening.

Furthermore, about 690 participants from Bahrain and abroad attended the first 10 sessions held following the opening ceremony where keynote speakers and experts discussed a number of topics relating to the latest trends in ICT and public service for citizens and businesses through 75 papers.

Likewise, Bahrain IT Expo's space doubled this year to 2,400 sqm with the participation of 92 exhibitors and 3,000 visitors from Bahrain and abroad representing public and private sectors, educational institutions and NGOs.
