As the ministry of company affairs logs into one of India’s largest e-governance projects, expect corporate India to don a digital avatar too. All transactions with the Registrar of Companies (RoC) will be in electronic mode in a couple of months. While this spells a transparent publicly accessible repository of information for India Inc, the tech world is busy celebrating the expected boom in digital security market.

Digital signatures, for one, are expected to see a 10-fold growth in the next two to three months. Insiders expect significant growth in cryptography-based applications too.

First phase to be implemented in 25 places, including 20 RoCs

The ministry of company affairs, government of India is expecting to meet its target for implementing the 'e-filing MCA 21' system by April 2006.

MCA 21 is a $75 million e-governance initiative of the company affairs ministry and Tata Consultancy Services, that will make all the business processes and services of the office of the registrar of companies (RoC) on-line.

Mayor Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya has promised representatives of the state’s industry, an online interaction in near future.

Speaking at a meeting on “Image Building of Kolkata” organised by the Bengal National Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BNCCI), Bhattacharya responding to a suggestion put forward by the Chamber - on the need to make KMC services user-friendly, said that by the pujas, this year, the KMC’s attempt to provide e-governance will be successfully accomplished.

Work to be completed before the Durga Puja this year

The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has been allocated Rs 100 crore to introduce e-governance to make their services available to the common man through a web portal.

The work on this project should be completed before the 'pujas' this year, said mayor Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharyya at a meeting organised by the Bengal National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, on image building of Kolkata.

Information and Technology Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya has said that the State Government would set up a total of 8000 kiosks so as to furnish information regarding various departments, civic bodies, public services, forms and directives of the government. This will generate employment for 16000 people.

The minister instructed setting up of these kiosks according to the advice given by the MLA Sobaran Singh (Babuji). Vijayvargiya was presiding over the meeting of the advisory committee of Information and Technology department held here today.
