Kiosk-PC für indische Dörfer geht in Serie

Nach über einem halben Jahr Entwicklung und ersten Test-Installationen hat Intel sein bisher "Community PC" genanntes Konzept zusammen mit der indischen Regierung offiziell vorgestellt. Vor allem in ländlichen Gebieten sollen Dörfer so besser an die Staatsstruktur angebunden werden.

Launches new ruggedised PC platforms and introduces 'Jagruti' to empower rural communities in India.

Thursday, March 30, 2006: Intel Corporation has launched a Community PC platform to meet the needs of rural areas and communities in India. The Intel-powered Community PC platform is equipped to operate in a community setting while accommodating the varying environmental conditions prevalent in the country.

Taking Information Technology closer to the rural areas, Vortex Technologies Ltd, a city-based enterprise solutions developer has announced the launch of probably the first-of-its- kind rural eGovernance initiative, Softrack.net 2.0.

Softrack.net, the flagship product of Vortex, has features that allow monitoring of rural issues and grievances besides the flow of funds through schemes like MPLADS.

It allows citizens to pay utilities’ bills, have birth and death certificates issued, all under one roof

A key component of e-governance is to provide governments with a citizen-friendly face. Naturally, G2C (government-to-citizens) is an important element of all e-governance projects. FirstGov in the US, e-Envoy of the UK, e-Taiwan, e-Citizen in Singapore, e-Korea, e-Malaysia, Victoria Online in Australia and Government Online in Canada are award-winning G2C services in the world.

Closer home, e-Seva in Andhra Pradesh, Friends in Kerala, Sukhmani centres in Punjab, the Lok-Mitra project in Rajasthan, Coimbatore-Online in Tamil Nadu and BangaloreOne in Karnataka are some of the pioneering G2C initiatives in India.

Silencing all those who claimed that information technology (IT) only benefits urban areas, a survey on 37 e-governance projects (government as well as private sponsored), spread across 11 states in the country has concluded that the power of information technology has proved to be much more beneficial in rural regions vis-a-vis urban regions.
