Mayor Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya has promised representatives of the state’s industry, an online interaction in near future.

Speaking at a meeting on “Image Building of Kolkata” organised by the Bengal National Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BNCCI), Bhattacharya responding to a suggestion put forward by the Chamber - on the need to make KMC services user-friendly, said that by the pujas, this year, the KMC’s attempt to provide e-governance will be successfully accomplished.

“You will be able to speak and chat with me. Things will be at your fingertip. This will be KMC’s puja gift to the city,” said Bhattacharya. He, however, maintained a strong reservation over the industry’s demand of denying permission to hawkers for encroaching upon pavements and parks. “You can’t remove hawkers on gun-point,” said the mayor, adding that hawkers have agreed to keep away from carriageways and restrain from putting up permanent structures. Reiterating statements made by him earlier, Bhattacharya said that for the first time it has happened in the country, that a municipal corporation has taken initiatives to bring in transparency and enforce work-culture.

“There is no lack of work culture at the KMC. we have made formal announcements about the works being undertaken by the KMC,” said Bhattacharya.
