  • Malaysia: MRSM Application Can Now Be Made Online

    Students interested in furthering their secondary education at the Mara Junior Science Colleges (MRSM) can now submit their application for the 2010 intake online.

    Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said the introduction of the online system was in line with the development in information technology, besides simplifying and saving time processing applications using the existing process.

  • Malaysia: Multimedia initiative to be extended nationwide

    The Multimedia Super Corridor Malaysia initiative, a forerunner in the country's progress towards developed status, would be extended nationwide.

    Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said this would be done in stages, with more areas to be accorded MSC cybercity and cybercentre status upon meeting the necessary conditions.

    This had been decided, Abdullah said, on the basis of the success of the MSC programme, now into its 11th year of rapid progress in achieving its targets.

  • Malaysia: MYEG sets record-high quarterly revenue of RM17.1 mln in 4Q10

    Malaysia’s e-government services provider MY EG Services Bhd (MYEG) kept its healthy pace of growth for the financial year ended June 30, with net profits growing 21.4 per cent to RM20.9 million from RM17.2 million in the previous corresponding year.This was on the back of group revenue growth of 18.3 per cent to RM62.1 million, driven by the group’s introduction of innovative e-government services such as the online renewal for foreign maid permits and higher overall awareness of the group’s e-government services on MYEG’s portal at www.myeg.com.my.

    “Group revenues in the fourth quarter were another record high for the group, strongly indicating the increasing acceptance of online e-government transactions amongst the public. The financial year 2010 has proven to be yet another successful year for us in bringing a higher level of convenience for public transaction with the government,” said its executive chairman Datuk Dr Norraesah Mohamad in a press statement.

  • Malaysia: myGovt ranked top 11 in 198 countries

    The portal ranked 15th in 2007 and moved closer to the top 10 last year with 1,115 online services for government agencies, businesses, and a one stop centre for the public to deal with all government related services.

    Malaysia’s government portal, www.malaysia.gov.my, has been ranked top 11 among 198 countries which offers online Electronic Government (EG) services by Brookings Institution in the United States.

  • Malaysia: New system to boost Kulai tax collection

    The Kulai Municipal Council (MPK) will implement a new tax collection system to improve the council's efficiency.

    According to its provider Perniagaan Fajar, the system, called Spekha, would have an identification system through which officers would have to verify their identity through fingerprint recognition and their Mykad.

  • Malaysia: New way to claim fuel rebates

    Vehicle owners can now claim fuel cash rebates through Malaysia’s leading e-Government Services Concessionaire, MY E.G. Services Bhd (MYEG) at their online portal – www.myeg.com.my.

    MYEG executive chairman Datuk Dr Norraesah Mohamad said Pos Malaysia Bhd would first verify the claim before making payment to the eligible vehicle owners through money order within seven working days, or credit the amount into their bank account within three working days.

  • Malaysia: One-stop centre to speed up applications for expats

    Multi-national companies can now get their applications for knowledge workers from overseas processed speedily with the setting up of a one-stop centre for expatriates here.

    The e-Xpats Centre is the first to be established in the country and is capable of reducing the waiting period for processing from previously one month to six working days. Its computer system is integrated with that of the Immigration Department.

  • Malaysia: Online Consultation Available At Hospitals Nationwide

    An online consultation method, or Tele Primary Care (TPC), will be implemented in government hospitals nationwide to allow rural folk access to specialist treatment.

    Deputy Health Minister Datuk Dr Abdul Latiff Ahmad said the method had been introduced in Johor and Sarawak before being extended to other states soon.

    "The ministry found online consultation and treatment using information technology to be useful. Villagers do not need to go to other hospitals to get specialist treatment," he said.

  • Malaysia: Online renewal of driving licence from Apr 1

    From April 1, MY E.G. Services Bhd (MYEG), a concession holder for the Malaysian E-Government E-services project, will offer the renewal of Confirmed Driving Licence via kiosks or the www.myeg.com.my portal.

    Working with the Road Transport Department, MYEG will also offer services such as the checking of Kejara points and payment of JPJ summonses via short-messaging service (sms).

  • Malaysia: Parliament: Broadband Services To Schools Will Be Upgraded

    Broadband services to 9,884 schools under the SchoolNet programme need to be upgraded, Minister of Information Communication and Culture Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim told Dewan Negara here Thursday.

    Rais said the One Mbps (mega bites per second) speed targetted for schools, has not been achieved.

    "In other words, the speed of the broadband service to schools need to be upgraded and to enable the upgrading, new wireless facilities like wimax or wifi systems are needed.

  • Malaysia: Pay summonses with credit card

    Traffic offenders can now pay summonses with their credit card through the Internet.

    Federal Traffic Chief Senior Asst Comm II Koh Hong Sun said Singaporean motorists could also log into three Internet sites to settle their summonses online.

  • Malaysia: Penang to get E-Tanah rolling

    Work to computerise and link state land administration systems under the E-Tanah project will kick off this year with a pilot phase in Penang.

    Land and Cooperative Development Deputy Minister Dr Tan Kee Kwong said last week the pilot phase would be implemented "soon," before the E-Tanah project is rolled out to other states.

    The project is a component of the Multimedia Super Corridor's E-Government Flagship Application.

  • Malaysia: Perak in e-govt push

    The Perak Government is on its way to implement an e-government initiative via the Perak Electronic Local Authority (PELA) system.

    Under the project, the system will link all 15 local authorities in the State to facilitate online payment of business licences, assessments, parking compound, rental of properties, hawker licences and other miscellaneous charges.

    The PELA project had commenced early this year at the Ipoh City Council (ICC), the largest local authority in Perak, with a cost of about RM400,000.

  • Malaysia: Perak to set up online bills payment system soon

    Residents will soon be able to pay assessment and other related bills to all the 15 local councils in Perak via the Internet.

    State Urban and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Chang Ko Youn said the state government had allocated some RM400,000 to the local councils to set up the database.

    “The residents will be able to make payment for assessment and other services from anywhere in the world.

  • Malaysia: Pikom: New broadband target more realistic

    The initial broadband penetration target set by the Government's MyICMS 886 plan was too ambitious, said the Association of the Computer and Multimedia Industry of Malaysia (Pikom).

    Lee Boon Kok, Pikom chairman, said the association is pleased that the Government has decided to aim for a more realistic target, as announced by the Deputy Prime Minister last week.

  • Malaysia: Pilot project to improve life of rural folks

    A pilot project known as InfoSTI@MOSTI by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation where hi-fi wireless service, computer training and cyber-net browsing are available for free, is set to change the mindset of rural people.

    In launching the project at Kota Marudu and Petra Jaya, Sarawak simultaneously through teleconferencing Sunday, its Minister Datuk Maximus Ongkili said the project is to support the national aspiration to build an informed society by encouraging the use of science, technology and innovation (STI) to improve the life of the people especially in rural areas.
