HRH Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs "MOMRA" Dr. Mansour bin Mit'eb bin Abdul Aziz and HE Minister of Communications & Information Technology "MCIT" Eng. Mohamed Jamil Mullah signed a memorandum of understanding between MOMRA and the e-Government Program (Yesser). According to the that MoU, Yesser will support efforts made by MOMRA with reference to the e-Government transformation and adoption of the infrastructure concept in conformity with the e-Government Action Plan.

Under that MoU, the e-Government Program will provide MOMRA with consultant and infrastructure services to implement the comprehensive municipal information system called "Baladi".

Under aegis of 'Yesser' supreme supervisory committee members, Yesser celebrated completion of the e-Government Phase 1 and commencement of Phase 2 under the second action plan (2012 -2016). The celebration was attended by more than 200 representatives of various government agencies.

Members of the steering committee who attended the celebration included HE Dr. Ibrahim Assaf minister of finance, HE Eng. Mohamed Jamil Mulla minister of communications & information technology, HE Eng. Abdul Aziz Darab governor of the communications and information technology commission. Prominent figures who played significant roles in Yesser's journey including KACST president Dr. Ibrahim Suweil, vice minister of education Dr. Khaled Al-Sibti and ex-governor of communications and information technology Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Ja'fari attended the celebration.

The rapidly growing health sector in the GCC countries, which a recent study estimated to expand at 11 percent annually and attract $160 billion by 2015, augurs well for all businesses in the market, including the e-health solutions providers.

E-health solutions are meant to increase efficiency in healthcare services in terms of time, cost, resources, reliability, and ease of communication, Mehmet Bilginsoy, CEO, CompuGroup Medical, Middle East, told the Saudi Gazette.

However, they have also some disadvantages, he noted, such as the need for continuous development to keep pace with the evolution of the medical field and the risk of failure for hospitals that rely fully on e-solutions in certain extreme conditions such as power failures.

Saudi Arabia is planning to turn the holy city of Makkah into a ‘smart city’ in an effort to improve services to millions of Muslim pilgrims, Arab News reported.

“We have new design plans for Makkah, Jeddah and Taif,” Makkah governor Prince Khaled Al-Faisal told a meeting on smart city applications earlier this week.

“It’s our opportunity to take the initiative now. All we need is good management and a strong will to start the project.”

Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has reaped two world-class awards from the United Nations in the area of Communications and Information Technology (CIT) and government e-Services.

The two prizes have been awarded for both Ministry of Education relating to its significant system "NOUR", and the Human Resources Development Fund with reference to its Program "HAFIZ".

Prince Faisal Bin Abdullah Al-Saud, Minister of Education, and Eng. Adel Bin Mohamed Fakih, Minster of Labour, dedicated the two awards to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz, and his Crown Prince Naif Bin Abdulaziz, for their constant efforts in supporting all government Agencies to achieve development and offer simple e-Services for beneficiaries including individuals, business sector and all government agencies.
