The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) will upgrade its network infrastructure to integrate and connect all its departments in improving their communication processes following a signing ceremony yesterday.

The $2 million contract was signed with two private companies to upgrade its network system in supporting the implementation of e-services as well as renovation of its IT Service Centre.

System Analyst Jamhali Yahya at the ministry told The Brunei Times that the project involves connecting the whole ministry comprising 10 departments with the infrastructure of a local area network.

The Home Affairs Ministry is now on a track to install a Wide-Area Network (WAN) and become a digitally-connected entity under the e-Government framework once the work to upgrade and install Local Area Network (LAN) in all respective locations is completed.

The scope of work to install LAN networks includes all departments under the ministry, including district-level branches throughout the country.

It was estimated that about 2,000 networks points will be installed in 86 identified localities.

The Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) will soon be able to integrate all data in a single database enabling law enforcers to have every bit of information on cases around the country at their fingertips.

RBPF and ITIS Wescot Technology Sdn Bhd, the company assigned to undertake the task, yesterday signed the contract to develop the Advanced Records Management System for the police force.

Signing of behalf of RBPF was SAC Hj Majid Hj Damit, director of administration and finance. Managing director Louis Lim signed on behalf of ITIS Wescot Technology.

As we are going to fully "utilise" e-government on which the Government has been spending millions of dollars on "e-government it self' has been "made" as full pledge department, as members of the public we would like to send letters to the government agencies on matters of public concern like traffic lights, jam prone areas, drains which are blocked and flooding the roads (like Jalan Bunut and part of Jalan Gadong) - we are facing problems - the problem is we could not find the email addresses.

I would like to see and suggest that email addresses should have its own directory (like the telephone directory) after all there are only 12 ministries and about 50 plus departments.

As part of the e-Government project under RKN 9, the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBAF) are venturing into an Advance Records Management System at a cost of $3,958,000. It is due to be completed in 12 months.

The signing ceremony between the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam represented by SAC Hj Majid bin Hj Awang Damit and Mr Louis Lim Ching Tong, Director of Administration and Finance, representing ITIS Wescot Technology Sdn Bhd, was held yesterday at the RBAF Headquarters in Gadong.
