The biometric passport project is a joint undertaking between a local company, Information Technology Protective Security Service (ITPSS), and a German company Giesecke & Devrient (G&D).

The guest of honour, Awang Jaini bin Haji Abdullah, the Director at the Department of information and Communication Technology at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, handed over the certificates to course participants at a ceremony held at the Riverview Hotel in Gadong.
Present as the guest of honour was Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Abdullah Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Bakar.

Through the implementation of the system, which costs $989,910, the population will see an increase of speed, efficiency, quantity, quality dissemination of information which are aligned with the Information Department's vision in 'Enhancing an informative society' said the Acting Director of the Information Department, Haji Mahrub Haji Murni during the signing ceremony for the e-Pelita project between the Information Department and AV Electronics Sdn Bhd yesterday at the Empire Hotel and Country Club in Jerudong.

The introduction of ICT has provided an opportunity for Brunei Darussalam to develop a variety of government strategies and initiatives as well as the ability to promote efficiency in the workforce through better and faster delivery of services.
