Customers can now check their water bills via the Internet when the handling of metering and billing inquiries will be made available on the Public Works Department website by the end of the year.

As part of the e-government projects under the Ministry of Development, the national e-Billing Integrated System will enhance the provision of metering and billing services to the public.

With the use of the latest state-of-the-art technology, the system will enable workers responsible for reading water meters to issue bills to the respective consumers on site, thus improving the efficiency of billing procedures.

Moreover, the department has also announced the introduction of payments through credit card, whereby the public can make payments at Public Works Department counters in all districts.

Visa, Mastercard, American Express issued by any banks and debit cards issued by Baiduri Bank will be accepted.

The electronic system will be carried out in stages across the four districts.

The Tutong district will start using the new spot billing tomorrow, followed by Temburong and Belait districts on September 1.

Residents of Brunei-Muara district will begin the new system on September 10.

The implementation of the system will provide a structured workflow design to improve the effectiveness of water billing services, according to a press statement from the Public Works Department.

Currently, the Water Services Department has to regularly deploy a team to collect meter readings and return back to the office to report and process their data before bills can be sent out.

The national e-billing integrated system is the fourth in a series of e-government projects undertaken by the Public Works Department.

It is one of the ways of alleviating long payment queues at payment counters as well as improve their customer service.

Local IT solutions provider ZNet Technologies is responsible for the the installation and maintenance of the eBilling Integrated System.

Znet has also brought in a specialist from Powercomp Automation Sdn Bhd to help with the project.
