Nigeria Immigrations Service has recovered the sum of N88 million as overpayments by those seeking to acquire the new e-passport and returned the money to their rightful owners.

Executive Vice-Chairman of National eGovernment Strategies, NeGSt, Dr Olu Agunloye, told journalists in Abuja that this recovery was part of the dividends of the eGovernment initiative but that NeGSt was still grappling with the challenge of identifying the real persons that made the overpayment. He stated that banks have been advised to refund all overpayments discovered.

EBONYI State University Teaching Hospital (EBSUTH) Abakaliki has introduced the use of Information Technology, ordinarily refered to as Medical Informatics, in its practice of medicine in view of telemedicine that is fast making in-roads Nigeria. Though the hospital says it lacks manpower in the area of medical image science or radiography, it prides itself as probably one of the first teaching hospitals in Nigeria to have a department of medical informatics.

Chief Medical Director (CMD) of EBSUTH, Dr. Onyebuchi Chukwu while receiving the President EBSUTH Staff Cooperative Thrift and Credit Society Limited, Dr. Chidi Esike that presented him an award giving to the society by the National Institute of cooperative professionals, said the hospital has obtained the service of medical informatics expert who he said has been doing so well to develop IT facilities in the hospital.

Nigeria´s National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), the body responsible for facilitating ICT growth for development in Nigeria has completed its assignment on the nation's ICT for development (ICT4D) strategy/plan. This was the outcome of the final technical meeting involving the key resource persons working on the document Tuesday, 17th June, 2008 at NITDA's headquarters in Abuja.

In realisation of the importance of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and the need to increase access to medical records by medical personnel in Lagos State, the government has embarked on e-health project.

Governor Babatunde Fashola stated this on Wednesday at this year’s Public Health Lecture entitled: “Peculiar Disease and Health Related Conditions in Nigeria: We Shall Overcome and We Must Overcome Them.”

The Due Process Bureau and e-Governance in Bayelsa State has said it was able to save N12 billion for the state through its strict scrutiny of government activities.

Director-General of the bureau, Mr Dimieari Kemedi, said the bureau had restored fiscal discipline and respect for government finances.

Kemedi said the bureau also ensured that contracts awarded were executed and that the bureau had to do this because sometime people think that government contracts were never monitored.
