National e-Government Strategies (NeGSt) is set to reap from the various e-projects it has initiated in the 42 months that it had existed. Key among these is the eNYCS, developed for the National Youth Service Corp and financed by Afribank to enhance data on youth service placements and operations in Nigeria.

The ePassport programme developed for the Nigerian Immigration Department and financed by Skye Bank as it eliminates multiple acquisition, identity theft and forgery seen in the system will provide timely immigration data bank in the country.

Nigeria, more than ever before, is determined to boost its economy and make it one of the 20 best comes the year 2020 by ensuring good governance through public sector reforms. In many fora and debates, it was held as one of the pathways to fast track the realization of our aspirations as a global eNation.

In 2001, the United Nations in its e-readiness report was unequivocal on the benefits derivable from authenticating and articulating the various platforms that will ensure the growth and sustenance of eNations as the knowledge economy increasingly swayes the world to new heights.

With oil windfall of over $200 billion between 1999 and 2007, the poor to mediocre performance of the federal and sub-national governments in service delivery needs careful study with a view to identifying the pitfalls that the successor governments must strive to avoid.

After presenting some evidence of poor service delivery between 1999 and 2007, the following three explanatory factors are highlighted: centralized federalism, unaccountable governments, and weak public administration capability.

In the country's march towards a formidable but sustainable eNation in line with global trends, various policies were formulated by government among which was the need to set up a wholly indigenous front-end interoperability and content management agency that will be fully committed to this cause.

The determined effort by government to provide good governance through due diligence, accountability and transparency alternately spawned the need to begin public sector reforms and the integration of all ministries, parastatals, departments and agencies in Nigeria. The Minister of Information and Communications, Mr. John Odey, said Nigeria has made "tremendous progress" in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

A statement by the ministry in Abuja, quoted the minister as saying that Nigeria's achievements had been acknowledged globally.

According to the statement, the minister spoke at a radio communication conference in Geneva.
