The quest for computer literacy among Nigerians is assuming an interesting dimension as individuals, private and public agencies are now embracing the project, all in a bid to bridge the existing digital divide separating Nigeria and other technologically advanced nations of the world.

Suddenly, Nigerians and indeed various government institutions, have woken up to the reality of the inevitability of computer education as the lack of it in a technologically and knowledge-driven economy could be retrogressive.

And in response to the call for a paradigm shift to electronic governance (e-government), organizations especially the private sector and non governmental organizations that are result oriented invest heavily now on computer training programmes for their staff and employees.

One of such organizations is the Nigeria Police whose Inspector-General, Mike Okiro has at various for a, emphasized the need to train its officers and men in the best practices as obtainable in other parts of the world to enable them face rising security challenges in an economy in which even crime itself has gone digital.

Recently, the IGP took a practical step by approving a computer training programme for the officers and men of the Jos Police Command in Plateau State. The training was conducted by an Abuja based foremost training institute, Ivory Learning Academy.

The one month training programme which took place at the Mopol 8 Primary School, brought together over 100 officers and men of the Nigeria Police from the Anglo Jos Division comprising Rantya division, the Police Band and Mopol 8.

The training exercise was aimed at ensuring that at the end of the programme, every participant should be able to have a basic knowledge of the computer and its functions as according to the Training Manager of Ivory Learning Academy , Chibuogwu Okolugbo, "the method applied was both practical and theoretical."

Chairperson of Ivory Learning Academy, Mrs. Margaret Woherem, who was present, expressed delight at the take off of the event and, hoped that the police under the leadership of a computer enthusiast,, like Mike Okiro, will bring computer awareness to an enviable height among the officers and men of the Nigeria Police.

Okolugbo explained further that the students will be better for it as Ivory Learning Academy deploys the best modern and simple method of learning to teach the students. "We give them hands-on experience as lecture is being illustrated through the projectors they watch and do what the instructors do. We also make the manuals easy for them to use whether in class or on their own."
