The e-governance designed to cut cost of administration in Benue state has taken off in some sections of the government machinery, Governor Gabriel Tor-Suswam said.

The governor who spoke through his Special Adviser on Media and Public affairs; Mr. Cletus Akwaya said at the inception of his administration on May29, last year, he embarked on a project to cut cost of administration part of which was the introduction of e-governance which could not however take off as a result of lack of infrastructure and personnel.

But after a year of its introduction, the programme took off with the provision of e-infrastructure and the training of personnel including top government officials and civil servants.

Suswam announced that the programme is taking off in phases, beginning with the state government house in Makurdi and some vital agencies including land administration system at the ministry of Lands and Survey.

"It is a gradual process. But so far, the programme is running in the givernor's office in government house. All staffs who are directly under me have under gone training", said the governor's media aide who added that commissioners and special advisers have equally under gone the compulsory training since, according to him, "not most of them were computer literate to go into e-governance".

He said the infrastructure including computers and internet facilities have already been provided to facilitate the programme whose successes, he expressed optimism as 100 percent.

"Each top government official now operates a computer. We are moving to the level of directors now. We are training people gradually, but we will achieve great result," he added.
