Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) on Sunday organised a seminar in association with Oman’s Information Technology Authority at Holiday Inn Muscat Hotel to facilitate exchange of e-governance best practices and thought leadership between the two countries.

IDA International, the execution arm of IDA for public service ICT collaboration between Singapore and countries around the world, shared Singapore’s change management strategies in adopting and implementing e-governance.

Technology savvy people are eagerly looking forward to the Sultanate’s first-ever Mobile Apps Centre, which is expected to be up and running this year. The Information Technology Authority (ITA) is in the process of launching a tender for establishing a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for ‘Mobile Applications Development’ in the Sultanate. Speaking to the Observer, Dr Salim bin Sultan al Ruzaiqi, CEO, ITA, said the Information Technology Authority is seeking to contract a reputable contractor to build a state-of-the-art Centre of Excellence (CoE) for ‘Mobile Applications Development’. The Mobile Applications Centre is being developed to offer a number of services to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), job-seekers, freelancers, and firms in various business incubators. It will also to act as an IT-enabled platform for researchers and government agencies.

The Information Technology Authority (ITA) on Wednesday announced the fourth edition of the Sultan Qaboos Award for Excellence in eGovernment at Crowne Plaza Muscat.

Dr Salim Sultan al Ruzaiqi, chief executive officer of ITA, Omar bin Salim al Shanfari, deputy CEO for operations at ITA and Fatma bint Salim al Riyami, project director of the Award presided over the press conference.

Oman’s drive to ensure that most services come on the e-platform will see the fourth edition of the Sultan Qaboos Award for Excellence in eGovernment have small and medium enterprises too vie for recognition.

Building on the 2012 edition’s success, the Information Technology Authority has said that this year, besides government and private sectors, SMEs too can participate with their innovate projects and e-services.

The number of awards this time would be in 12 categories – nine for the government sector, two for big companies in the private sector and one for SMEs, ITA chief executive officer Dr Salim Sultan Al Ruzaiqi said.

The Ministry of Information on Monday organised a panel discussion titled 'Path of the Digital Transformation in the Ministry of Information'. The discussion focused upon on a number of issues related to the digital transformation and identified some terminologies, such as 'Digital Transformation,' e-Government" and 'Smart Government'.

Nassir bin Humaid Al Khiyari, Director-General of the Administrative and Financial Affairs at the Ministry of Information, head of implementing the plan of e-transformation highlighted what have been done and what will be done in this regard.
