The Information Technology Authority (ITA) and Ministry of Health (MoH) on Tuesday signed an agreement with ICT Health, a software development company, to design the eHealth portal.

H E Dr Ali Talib al Hinai, Undersecretary for Planning Affairs in MoH, Dr Salim Sultan al Ruzaiqi, CEO of ITA and Fareed al Hinai, vice chairman, ICT Health signed the agreement at the ITA premises in Knowledge Oasis Muscat.

A press release stated that ICT Health, in collaboration with Sweden-based Monator Technologies AB, will design and implement the portal project for the ministry. The portal will be a one-stop access point for users seeking information and services from MoH.

H E Dr Hinai was quoted in the release as saying, “The primary aim of ITA and MoH behind launching the portal is to provide services and quality healthcare for all citizens and residents.”

The portal aims to provide users with comprehensive and up-to-date information on MoH’s announcements and services offered. “We want the portal to serve as a role model for all government entities by empowering users with a range of electronic and mobile services such as appointment scheduling, pre-employment health check-up, blood bank related services, registering of pharmacies, clinics and hospitals and online patient records,” H E Dr Hinai stated.

Dr Ruzaiqi added, “This is an important agreement for ITA and is another breakthrough towards the e.Oman strategy and eGovernment transformation plan. The quality of eHealth services is a key evaluation criterion to measure how nations have progressed in the field of ICT.”

The portal will have discussion forums to allow users to express their opinions and make suggestions regarding healthcare services provided by the ministry.

‘Registered users of the portal will be able to participate in discussions too. MoH officials will participate in these dialogues by providing their feedback,’ the release stated.
