Die Vereinigten Arabischen Emirate (VAE) haben dem Computer- und IT-Dienstleistungskonzern IBM den Auftrag zum Aufbau eines landesweiten Verkehrsleit- und Sicherheitssystems erteilt. Ein entsprechender Vertrag im Wert von 125 Millionen US-Dollar sei inzwischen unterzeichnet worden, teilte IBM am heutigen Freitag mit. Im Rahmen des zunächst auf vier Jahre ausgelegten Projekts, das offiziell als Vorhaben zur Senkung der Unfallraten im Land deklariert ist, soll langfristig jedes Fahrzeug in den Emiraten mit Telematiksystemen ausgestattet werden, die über GPS-, GSM-, GPRS-, Bluetooth- und optional auch über RFID-Funktionen verfügen. Die installierten Bordcomputer sollen sich zudem auf IBMs Sprachsteuerungstechnik ViaVoice verstehen und enthalten Java-basierte WebSphere-Komponenten.

Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipalities and Agriculture – Works (DMA–Works) is set to slash costs by 15% and cut project times by up to 20% with a massive multi-million dollar e-government project.

At the heart of the department’s automation drive is its Project Collaboration and Management System through Project Specific Website Technology (PCMA-PSWS) system. The web-based portal, which will allow different members of a building project team to collaborate even if they are in different parts of the world, is already in use but it is expected to be officially unveiled later this week.

Privacy experts have concerns about the proposal

A Texas legislator has filed a bill that would, in part, call for the state to replace vehicle inspection stickers with radio frequency identification (RFID) tags, otherwise known as transponders.

But the idea doesn't sit well with some privacy experts.

The hi-tech e-Gate project will be launched at all airports in the country to allow passengers fast access through electronically-controlled gates, Lieutenant-General Shaikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Interior, has said.

The first phase of the revolutionary project would be implemented at all airports in the country, said Lt-Gen. Shaikh Saif, adding that the second phase will cover all entry points.
