Dubai Municipality has bagged the Best Middle East e-Government Portal award during the 10th Middle East Information and Communication Technology Excellence Awards presented at a ceremony held on the sidelines of the 11th GCC e-Government Forum at Dubai World Trade Centre.

Qassim Sultan, Director General of Dubai Municipality received the award from His Highness Prince Ambassador Mohammed Bin Saud Bin Khaled, General Manager of the Information and Studies Centre of Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Dubai Municipality has launched a new set of online services as part of the fourth phase of its e-Government initiative, which is now undergoing a comprehensive review.

The new e-Services include the Online Advertisement Permits Service, the Clearance for Importation of Dangerous Goods and the DM e-Tendering Management System.

This was announced in a press conference on Wednesday, 25th May by Qassim Sultan, Director General of Dubai Municipality, and Hussein Nasser Lootah, Assistant Director General of the Municipality for Planning and Building Affairs and Head of the e-Government Committee.

Kennedy School of Government, has united an elite audience of Arab and international academics, policy makers, and senior government officials to discuss the need for a paradigm shift in e-Government strategies.

Dubai Municipality is focusing on increasing online services for the public.

"Currently, we offer 245 e-services as part of the municipality's e-Government service which started in October 2001," said engineer Hussain Nasser Lootah, Chairman of Dubai Municipality (DM) e-Government Steering Committee.

Computer Associate’s (CA) vice president of technology services in the Arab countries, Bjarne Rasmussen, will present CA’s strategy on securing and managing e-government infrastructure, themed “Successful Planning for Mission Critical e-Government Applications”, at the GCC’s e-government forum.

The forum aims to address the main challenges facing e-governments across this region, and highlight the ideal solutions to overcome these challenges. According to Rasmussen, “In the GCC, CA solutions are supporting government departments with their national information technology plans, including e-government initiatives, as they strive to ease the life of the community and businesses, and realign IT to support department goals - all while helping ensure national security.”
