The outlook of Brunei's aspiration and vision to the full implementation of e-Government for next year is set on its course especially with the support of APEC ministers aired during their Ministerial Meeting in November.

In a joint declaration, the ministers endorsed the APEC Privacy Framework and the Future Work Agenda on International Implementation of the APEC Privacy Framework.

The progress of Brunei's e-Government initiatives was discussed yesterday following the "Roadmap for Success in e-Governance" talk delivered by the Vice President of Oracle Asia Pacific, Keith Bidge.

The panel of speakers included Dr. Yong Chee Tuan, Director of ICT Centre Universiti Brunei Darussalam; members of KKT; Sheikh Abas of Syabas Technologies Sdn Bhd; Haji Umar Ali bin Haji Abdullah of BIT Secretariat and the Chief of Computer Services of Information Technology and State Store Department and EGSPEC members.

The revival of the Legislative Council and the Constitution Amendments will encourage and motivate civil service in the country to achieve higher levels of excellence and efficiency, Pehin Dato PadukaAwg Hj Hazair, Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office, said yesterday.

They will make the civil service in the country more transparent, accountable, and competitive and concentrate more on the customer and services focus, he told the 11th Civil Service Day 2004 yesterday.

The Civil Service Department needs officers and staff who are creative, innovative, integrative and committed to ensure that the `organising culture' within the department is of high standard.

This was highlighted by Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Yusoff bin Haji Ismail, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, who was speaking during the commemoration of the Civil Service Day in Tutong District. It was held at the hall of the official residence of the Tutong district officer.

The administration of Brunei Darussalam is looking to go paperless in 116 e-government projects next year.

By 2005, Brunei will be a Paperless Society pursuing 116 projects with 100 per cent expectations under its e-Government programmes, according to Awang Haji Umar Ali bin Haji Abdullah, Head of the Computer Services at the Ministry of Finance.
