Pehin Dato Dr Haji Awang Hussein, the Minister of Culture Youth and Sports, stressed this in his official address at the launching of the registration disabled people throughout the country and the orientation and mobility workshop yesterday. He said the registration services for the disabled people in the country can now be made through the website of the Community Development Department. “This has been going on since last year.”
The launching of the registration disabled people throughout the country and the orientation and mobility workshop was aimed to help disabled people, visually impaired and the wheel chair bound.
Its objective was to obtain information and data of the applicants in a shorter time.
Pehin Dato Dr Haji Awang Hussein said the registration for the disabled people is important for government and non-government agencies.
Through computer, all information of registration could be accurately and rapidly coordinated in helping the planning or enhancing the services.
He said the disabled people will always be given the opportunity and support because their physical disability is not a hindrance for them to contribute to national development.
His Majesty's government provides financial assistance to several disabled students to enable them to further their studies at a higher learning institution either in the country or abroad.
The Minister also touched on the encouraging achievement of the disabled athletes in sports.
“They have represented the country at sports meets at regional and international level and brought home gold medals,” he said.
At the ceremony, the Minister also received donations from two companies. Syarikat Asterix United Sendirian Berhad donated a wheel chair and a walking frame while Syarikat L.S.Kai Care donated 80 pieces of T-Shirt.
Then, the minister presented white canes to three visually impaired.
The two-day orientation and mobility workshop is one of the Community Development Department efforts to instil awareness to members of public on problems faced by disable people.
The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Health workshop jointly conducted the workshop and the registration.
