Nigeria is set to regulate emerging technologies such as the Internet of Things as the nation enters a new phase of technological advancements.

At a Stakeholders Consultative on Emerging Technologies, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, Prof Umar Danbatta, defined IoT as a system of interrelated computing devices, mechanical and digital machines, objects, animals, or people that are provided with unique identifiers and the ability to transfer data over a network without requiring any human intervention.

The Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) has announced that all is set for formal launch of the upgraded Lagos State Resident Identity Card (LAG ID Card).

Announcing the launch date, the General Manager, LASRRA, Engr. (Mrs.) Ibilola Kasunmu, said the new LAG ID Card will be launched on Wednesday, July 20 by the Lagos State governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo- Olu, at Police College, Ikeja GRA.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Science and Technology, Mr. Hakeem Fahm has said technology has a very critical role to play in the state government’s plan to transform the state into a smart city and make the economy 21st century compliant is fully on course.

Fahm said the on-going laying of 3,000 km fibre metro network cables and broadband infrastructure across the state is part of the comprehensive Smart City programme of the government aimed at driving Lagos into a 24-hour economy, adding that technology is key to the project.

According to the website macrotrends.net, the current metro area population of Abuja in 2022 is 3,652,000, a 5.43 per cent increase from 2021. To solve the crisis of rising housing deficit in the capital city of Abuja, a businessman and entertainment mogul, Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, has promised to mitigate the housing challenges faced by Nigerians by providing affordable accommodation for residents of Abuja, irrespective of status or class. Cubana and his associates are sinking in $1million on New Dawn & Casa Cubana Golf resort, 86.9 hectares of land that would have 500-600 housing units constructed along the Jabi-Airport road.

Dr ABC Orjiako, pioneer Chairman, Seplat Energy Plc, says Nigeria has the potential to become one of the fastest-growing economies in the world with digital transformation.

Orjiako said this while delivering the third Arthur Mbanefo Lecture series organised by the Arthur Mbanefo Digital Research Centre (AMDRC), University of Lagos, on Friday in Lagos.
