Stakeholders in the built environment have urged professionals to embrace the concept of smart cities that would focus on using technology and data to improve public services, as well as quality of life for the residents.

The architects and planners, who spoke at the Archibuilt Exposition in Abuja, said the use of artificial intelligence and technology, innovative devices and knowledge-based economy would promote affordable housing.

There are high hopes for the possibility of Anambra citizens having access to the St​ate Laws and other legislative instruments digitally, as the Anambra State ICT Agency on Friday took its digitization drive to the State House of Assembly.

The ICT Agency’s delegation led by Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, met with Mr. Somto Udeze, the Speaker of the House, and Mr. Ikenna Ofodeme the majority leader.

James Lalu, executive secretary of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has expressed the readiness of the organisation to partner the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) on the inclusive smart city project.

He said this while receiving representatives of the FCTA, department of social welfare, in his office on August 15, 2023.

Lalu reaffirmed the need to use the FCT as a model city that will be more accommodating of PWDs through the adoption of minimum accessibility standards.

A technology firm, Afritex and the Nigeria Data Protection Bureau (NDPB) have committed to an alliance for the formation of a holistic national policy for the building of smart cities in Nigeria, and entrench data privacy for all Nigerians.

Both the national commissioner/CEO of NDPB, Dr Vincent Olatunji and founder/CEO of Afritex, Oyesola Oworu made the commitment on Thursday when Olatunji received in audience, team from Afritex led by Oworu on a courtesy visit in his Abuja office. The visit was to seek the partnership and collaboration of the data bureau towards the coming fourth edition of the Sustainable Smart Cities Forum.
